The New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) and New Zealand Dance Company (NZDC) are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to develop and promote New Zealand’s best contemporary dance talent.
NZDC and NZSD are committed to attracting, developing and retaining outstanding talent. Together they hope to create pathways for talented individuals to receive top-notch dance education and training.
NZSD Director Garry Trinder expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. “We have had a highly valued relationship with the Royal New Zealand Ballet since the school’s founding in 1967. We have long sought to establish a similar association with a contemporary dance company, which would bring new opportunities to our contemporary dance students. Come the benefits. The announcement that the New Zealand Dance School will become the “official school” of Dance New Zealand reflects a year of dialogue and negotiations. The Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations provides several key benefits, including a legal pathway to create employment for young New Zealand contemporary dancers. There is much that can be achieved through the symbiotic sharing of knowledge, skills, experience and resources between NZDC and NZSD. We are very excited about this development and look forward to the ability to push boundaries, create and expand our art form.
NZSD and NZDC will work together to elevate contemporary dance and provide enriching experiences for artists and audiences.
NZDC Executive and Artistic Director Moss Te Ururangi Patterson echoed the enthusiasm, adding: “This exciting partnership marks significant progress in supporting and showcasing the outstanding talent of New Zealand dance schools. New Zealand Dance The company looks forward to creating meaningful opportunities that will not only enhance the careers of young dancers, but also promote the growth and global influence of contemporary dance in New Zealand and beyond.
Through their partnership, the two organizations aim to inspire the next generation of dancers and ensure that ethnic dance culture thrives in the years to come.
