While the fashion world turns its attention to the spring/summer 2025 shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris, my eyes are on the well-dressed guests showcasing the fashion trends for fall 2024. Street style this time of year is a masterclass in the season’s most coveted looks, and I’m taking notes. From suede to dark denim, the pieces I’ve collected on Instagram have become my bucket list of fall trends that I can’t wait to start checking off.
This year, the best way I can describe the fall 2024 fashion trends is back to basics. When I imagine style this season, I think of 50 Shades of Brown, tailored blazers, chunky knee-high boots, and gorgeous suede bags. The trends on my social media and shopping pages reflect exactly that: true, classic fall fashion. Additionally, they are all very cohesive and work well together while also making their own point independently.

This fall, suede is starting to appear on bags, boots, blazers, and belts. The possibilities are endless, so feel free to make this trend your own.
While suede tends to be more expensive, if you don’t want to invest in this seasonal fabric, there are plenty of faux suede options on the market that can achieve the look for less. However, if you’re ready to splurge on suede, remember that it’s inherently fragile, so your purchase should also include a good protective spray to keep your pieces looking pristine for years to come.

Allow me to introduce you to the coat that will be in everyone’s shopping cart this fall: the barn jacket. Originally viral by Dôen, this light layer captures the classic country and Ralph Lauren fall aesthetic. These well-constructed, comfortable and casual jackets are popping up on almost every site at a variety of price points, so while it may take a purchase to jump on this trend, it’s up to you to decide whether to splurge or save. Bonus points if your husband or dad has a vintage version.
The key to rocking this trend is juxtaposition—pair your barn jacket with pieces that create an interesting mix of textures and styles, as seen on Hannah Porter. The neutral tones of this jacket will go with just about anything, so don’t be afraid to get creative with your wardrobe. I personally can’t wait to create a transitional look with a barn jacket paired with white boxer shorts and loafers.

From rich chocolate to soft tan and everything in between, brown is definitely the color of the season. Versatile and sophisticated, this is a trend you can invest in with confidence because this color isn’t going away anytime soon. If you usually opt for a black coat, sweater, bag or boots, this year try opting for brown to bring more warmth to your look.
