Directed and choreographed by Antony Hamilton, Artistic Director and Co-CEO of Chunky Move, 4/4 The play premiered at the Malthouse Theater in August 2023 to a sold-out run and received rave reviews.
4/4 It’s a hypnotic meditation on meticulous dance that combines precise choreography, minimalist design and a rugged street aesthetic. Eight dancers begin a situational performance that unfolds piece by piece, each dancer energizing the last, while quartets and duets converge and diverge in kaleidoscopic configurations.

4/4Its outstanding cast brings together dancers from a variety of disciplines, including street dance, contemporary dance, theater and ballet. Melissa Pham, David Prakash, Harrison Ritchie-Jones, Aimee Schollum, Michaela Michaela Tancheff, Nikki Tarling and Jayden Wall return from the original 4/4 The talented Kyle Shanks joins the cast for the first time.
Hamilton worked with a close-knit group of creatives to bring the work to life through lighting design by Bosco Shaw, streetwear design by long-time collaborator Paula Levis, and sound design by Alisdair Macindoe, winner of the Green Room Award. His contribution to this work was recognized earlier this April.
After short UMAC season and London premiere, Hamilton and cast will go on tour 4/4 The work was presented to an expected European audience of nearly 10,000 people in prestigious venues in Brussels, Oslo, Heerlen, Porto and Luxembourg.
Chunky Move has a rich history and has successfully hosted international tours for the past 28 years, showcasing the unique talents of Victorian artists. This will be the company’s first European tour under Hamilton’s creative leadership, reintroducing Hamilton and Chunky Move’s seminal works to European audiences and reinforcing their seminal influence on dance practice worldwide.
