Ralph Beauchamp
A bold concert takes place at The Dome at Oakdale Theater on Thursday, September 19th. alkaline trio Spanish love songs and slomosas were played to a packed house of energetic fans for immediate support.
The evening started with the Norwegian Stoner Quartet, Slomossa. Since I didn’t know much about the band, I didn’t have any expectations. When they hit the first note, everyone noticed, including me. Opening with the 2024 full-length song “Rice”, tundra rockThe crowd was washed over with a thunderous intensity. Vocalist and guitarist Benjamin Berdous hits everyone with his brazen aggression. Lead guitarist Tor Erik Bye’s riffs are hard but still have a solid rhythm. Bassist Marie Moe is a treasure. Her bass lines are explosive and her stage presence is mesmerizing. Your eyes are always drawn to her swagger. Drummer Judd Hall explodes with power. This band is impressive, to say the least.

Across their six songs, Slomossa unleashes a relentless storm of greed. “In My Mind’s Desert” from their self-titled debut album is full of spicy notes. “Gunfight”, another song delay rockconfirming their bold stance. Their last three songs, “There Is Nothing Under The Sun,” “Kevin,” and “Horses,” were all from 2020 Slomossa. Each song builds upon the powerful energy they unleash upon the audience. Beldos are very friendly. He mentioned that his throat was bothering him so he bought Nyquil which was not available in Norway. That was helpful, but he told the crowd to wake him up if he fell asleep.
Slomossa is a great find. Their music transcends many genres, including stoner, punk and hard rock. Their musicianship is impeccable, and there’s a boldness to Slomossa’s visuals. A band worth checking out.
Next up is Los Angeles spanish love song Led by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dylan Slocum. Their sound is punk-themed, mixed with emo and anthemic rock. Kind of like Sting on Prozac. Starting with the 2023 release of Losers no joythe whole house dug into the spacey and heartfelt emotion the band was kicking. Slocum’s voice is soulful and full of a cinematic edge. His voice trembled with dramatic tension, gripping the throats of his listeners. SLS’s lyrics also pack a punch.
So do you think we’ll get beyond that?
Free from the pain of mere existence?
whenever you want to leave your body
Or can’t understand this dream
you swear you like it better
When you can’t guess the ending
it never adds up
But don’t count yourself out

The Spanish Love Song track flips between no joy and their 2020 album, Everyone faces it bravely. Next up is “Losers,” with even more energy from the band. The entire system is once again flawed in sonic propulsion. Lead guitarist Kyle McAulay’s riffs are packed with rich textures, while drummer Ruben Duarte is fearless. Meredith Van Wert’s keys sparkle with an unearthly impulse. “Self-Destruct” spawned “Pendulum”, “Kick” and “Loser 2”. they are a big hit no joy“Haunted” attracted bursts of approval. The Spanish love songs end with “Routine Pain” and “Clean-Up Crew.” The whole house loved their great show.
