While denim is a year-round classic, it’s also a quintessential fall capsule wardrobe piece. As we enter the cooler months, jeans are usually the foundation of every outfit I create. This season, designers are reinventing this wardrobe staple in fresh and exciting ways, striking the perfect balance between timeless charm and contemporary style. We’ve seen the rise and fall of skinny jeans, an unexpected resurgence of low-rise styles, and even a brief foray into cropped pants, but how will the fall 2024 denim trend define this season?

Nana
Grace Na is the founder and creative director of Los Angeles denim brand Pistola. Known for its incredible (Greta Gerwig-approved) designs and sold in over 1,000 retailers nationwide (including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Shopbop), Pistola is quickly becoming the go-to denim brand as a female-founded denim brand one of the leading figures.
Great Denim Styles for Fall 2024
While classic straight-leg jeans are always a go-to, fall is also the perfect time to try something different. When asked which styles will dominate the fall 2024 denim trends, Na pointed to three fashion-forward styles we’ll be seeing everywhere this season.
- Barrel/balloon leg denim. This structured silhouette is a hit for fall 2023 and isn’t going away. While the exaggerated bow-legged look may seem a little crazy at first, I find this shape to be universally flattering and naturally makes an outfit more interesting.
- Extra wide-leg denim. We all know that skinny jeans are rumored to be going out of style, but fall 2024 is the complete opposite. Roomy, low-rise, comfortable jeans pair perfectly with a more fitted top for an elegant yet effortless night out.
- Purposely cuffed denim. Big cuff bottom jeans are perhaps my favorite fall 2024 denim trend that’s taking over the runways and my Instagram feed. This design is a small, simple detail perfect for anyone who wants to subtly incorporate a stylish element into their fall wardrobe.
Trending Denim Shades and Washes for Fall 2024
For Na, the simple answer is that dark denim and washed classics are her go-to washes for fall. While light and mid-wash jeans can certainly be paired with browns, blacks, and burgundies for fall, darker, slightly faded tones will be popular this season. Red remains ubiquitous, and Na noted that it will continue to be a trend in ready-to-wear denim in fall 2024.
Styling Tips for Fall 2024 Denim Trends
I’m so excited about my fall denim inspired designs and Na’s advice will be my guiding principle all season long.
Do:
- The Canadian tuxedo is a classic for a reason.
- Feel free to mix and match washed denim to add depth to your outfit.
- Your jeans are your jeans, and don’t be afraid to cut the inseam to fit your height (it’s easier than it looks).
No:
- Wear slim-fitting bottoms with a slim-fitting top, the juxtaposition can make an outfit interesting.
- Choose only the sizes you normally wear and try on a few sizes to see which fits best.
- Be afraid to try all the fun new shapes that are coming out! You might surprise yourself.
If you prefer a tighter denim silhouette but don’t want to feel dated, “slim straight is the new skinny.” Stick to ankle-length, cropped cuts and pair them with an oversized shirt, jacket, or sweater for an easy, on-trend A fall look that still makes you feel like yourself.
As for herself, this fall, Na will be designing a plethora of washed denim tops and bottoms that can be worn together or separately. Her go-to is to offset baggy denim with plenty of fitted tops, finishing the look with socks and loafers.
