As the leaves slowly change and the temperatures start to drop, I think it’s safe to say that the cozy season is just around the corner. Fall invites us to enhance our warmth, and it’s not just about heavy knitwear and blankets. Fall color palettes mimic what’s happening in nature, and this season’s paint color trends offer sophisticated variations on the usual oranges, reds, and browns.

7 Fall Paint Color Trends for 2024 Fall Update
Fall 2024 paint color trends are all about embracing the season’s familiar hues while going deeper, richer, and bolder. Next, I chatted with interior designers to get their thoughts on this season’s color trends. Keep reading to read them all!
warm white
No paint review would be complete without neutrals, and this year’s dominant color is warm white. “Neutrals are and will always be my first choice, but I’ve found myself leaning more and more toward warmer neutrals over the past few years,” Allison of Allison Handler Design Handler said. This is definitely in line with this year’s trend – cool colors are gradually going out. Not sure which warm white is best for your home? Handler isn’t shy about expressing her personal favorites. “I’m a Sherwin Williams girl and my go-to color is Sherwin Williams Greek Villa. In my opinion, it’s the perfect warm white,” she shared.
forest green
What would the fall 2024 paint color trend story be without shades of green? This season, forest green reigns supreme. Studio Shaolin’s Shaolin Low recommends Farrow and Ball’s Beverly, a medium green that looks bolder in high light and softer in low light. “Pair Beverly with earthy neutrals to balance its rich green. Enhance the cool tones with brass cabinet pulls, doorknobs and light fixtures.
If you’re not sure how to decorate a forest green room, Low has some suggestions. “Accentuate the space with a walnut or oak coffee table, sideboard or accent chair with wooden legs to create an organic feel,” she says. “Choose furniture with bronze, matte black or brushed brass accents for a modern edge that complements green tones.”
brown
With warm neutrals trending this year, brown is also hugely popular, especially in the fall. “For fall, we always like to use warm, saturated colors—like earthy greens and burnt siennas,” shares Far Studio’s Brittany Hakimfar. “When we paint a room with one of these colors, we paint the entire space , including walls, ceilings and trim to really create a stunning effect and fill the room with warmth.”
Colorful brown room? Talk about comfort! All shades of brown are on trend right now, from rich espresso to mild, pastel beiges and tans. Choose a lighter brown for a calming vibe or a bold dark brown for more drama.
Clay
As a fall paint color trend for 2024, clay colors definitely deserve it. Mixing red and brown allows you to get the best of both popular colors—terracotta is a great neutral. Handler counts Sherwin Williams’ 2023 Color of the Year, Redend Point, among her favorite paint colors this season. This color is perfect for bedrooms, bathrooms, or anywhere you need to slow down. Pair clay walls with warm woods and cozy textiles to create a space that’s calming and luxurious.

Grays and cool neutrals are slowly going out of style, so this trend comes as a surprise. Handler found herself drawn to a mix of gray and beige. Beige warms up the stark cool gray, making it a popular neutral. This is a great option if you don’t want white walls but are a little wary of color. It can also create subtle contrast in an all-white room. “I like to paint the decor in a pop of color and keep the rest of the room neutral,” says Handler. “I would use shiitake to paint the entire rooms and decor of the Sherwin Williams Greek Villa. It adds another level of unexpected detail.
muddy tones
One designer thinks it’s confusing to perfect the brown tones that make up the fall 2024 paint color trends. “This fall, we’re seeing a strong trend toward muddy colors—those rich, detailed tones that change with the changing light throughout the day,” shares Nicole Roe of R. Nickson Interiors. “These colors have unique qualities: In full sunlight, they appear lighter and brighter, bringing warmth and energy to the room. But as the day turns to night and the light softens, they take on a darker , more moody characteristics, creating a comfortable, inviting atmosphere.
A muddy shade can be any color with a brown undertone, which gives the paint color depth and versatility. “We like to use muddy tones to color the room,” Roy shares. “This creates an inclusive, cohesive look that is both bold and comfortable.”
rose color
Although I personally will always be Barbie Pink, Fall 2024 paint color trends are shifting towards slightly more subtle shades. “I’ve been drawn to lavender and rose hues lately,” Handler muses. Fuchsia is a beautiful mix of pink and purple that’s perfect for fall, while rose colors like raspberry or magenta can bring a sophisticated feel.
Roe recommends Sherwin Williams Concerto, a warm berry red. This would be a great color choice for a dramatic look. “Don’t hesitate to implement these colors into your curtains, upholstery and rugs for a fully immersive experience that’s both luxurious and grounded,” she says. For a softer, more relaxed vibe, choose an easy-going fuchsia or dusty rose.
