Dave Grohl is a divorced man. The question is whether he will ever be a divorced man again.
In a shocking post on Instagram, the Foo Fighters rocker admitted to the world that he cheated on his wife of more than 20 years. To make matters worse, the relationship produced an illegitimate child.
For those who have followed Dave Nirvana’s career since his days, this story may sound familiar. For the rest of us, it’s worth explaining that Dave Grohl knows exactly what happens when you cheat on your spouse: divorce.
How much of his marital history will repeat itself? Let’s take a closer look.
Dave Grohl’s divorce: His first marriage ended in a very messy way
Picture this: 1994.
Her last name says it all. At the time, Dave was only 25 years old. He was still with Nirvana, and his friend Kurt Cobain had just died.
In later years, Dave admitted in interviews that he was too young to be married. This may be the reason why they broke up in 1997.
But this is far from over.
There were conflicting reports as to why the pair broke up, with one popular theory being that he cheated on her. Dave, for his part, insists the breakup was amicable.
“I was 25 and my wife was younger. We weren’t ready to get married,” he once told NME. “I miss her so much, she was the funniest weirdo you’d ever meet in your life. Absolutely adorable. It would have been better if we hadn’t been married. But you live, you learn.
His first divorce led to the breakup of the band
It turns out that Dave Grohl’s divorce has ramifications beyond just paperwork and asset division.
This also led to a split in the Spitfire, and resulted in one member leaving the group for good.
Guitarist Pat Smear is said to be a close friend of Dave’s first wife, Jenner Youngblood. The split was clearly a turning point for Pat, who was already feeling touring fatigue and had disagreements with Dave about how to control the band.
“I’m just fed up. I’m so tired of this whole thing. Spitfire: Back and forth.
He added: “I [didn’t] Want to do another gazillion tours, but I don’t care. I just [didn’t] Want to do this.
So Dave not only has to deal with a broken marriage, but also repair a broken band. He managed to reconnect with Pat, who toured with the band in 2006.
But some courses are more difficult to learn than others.
Dave Gore faces divorce from second wife again
Six years later, Dave married his second wife, Jordyn Blum, on August 2, 2003, at their home in Los Angeles.
For more than 20 years, the two seemed to have been happily married. They welcomed three children, all girls, and Dave appeared to be a doting father while out on tour.
“I used to tour nine months out of the year. Now I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days,” he told Time magazine in 2009.
Then, on September 10, 2024, he announced that he was the father of a fourth little girl—but with another woman who was not his wife! Yes, Dave admitted to his affair in a brief but shocking statement on Instagram.
“I recently became the father of a daughter born out of wedlock,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I love my wife and children and I’m doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
The question now is, will his second marriage end in divorce like the first? The truth is, right now we don’t know. What we can tell you is that until this moment, there have been zero rumors about Dave divorcing his wife or vice versa. Everything looks fine.
In fact, the two were last spotted together at Wimbledon in 2024 and looked like the picture-perfect couple.
