Mr Greedy – An African penguin at the Maryland Zoo – died at the age of 33… who had more than 200 offspring in his lifetime.
The busy penguin died in late August… Zoo officials made the difficult decision to euthanize him due to age-related health reasons, Maryland Zoo Curator of Birds Jen Kotyan told reporters. Baltimore flag.
In 1992, Mr. Greedy was transferred to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and paired with his partner, affectionately known as “Greedy.” Mrs Greedy — after about two years there, the Standard reported.
Cotian said that while the two were only supposed to be matched for a few years, they proved to be “genetically worthy” and produced many generations of offspring… so the zoo kept them together. He had about 230 descendants
According to Kottyan, Mr. Greedy lived well beyond 18 years and helped sustain African penguin populations, contributing to their continued survival around the world. .
The Maryland Zoo at Baltimore’s Penguin Coast – where Greedy has lived for more than 30 years – is home to the second largest colony of African penguins in the world… and it has Mr. G to thank for that.
Mr. Greedy is 33 years old.
