Jeremy Vuolo didn’t always see eye to eye with his father-in-law, Jim Bob Duggar.
In fact, when Jeremy first met his future wife, Jinger Duggar, he had a hard time winning Jim Bob’s approval.
In the years since, the couple has gone their own separate ways, often displaying beliefs and values that are at odds with Jim Bob’s worldview.
Now, Jeremy might be unhappy with Jim Bob’s notoriously strict approach to religion and parenting.
Has Jeremy Vuolo criticized Jim Bob Duggar?
Earlier this week, Jeremy appeared on Costi Hinn’s “For the Gospel” podcast.
At one point, the conversation turned to legalism—the belief that one can achieve salvation by following a set of rules.
“If you really want to attack the character and nature of God, then give your people a list of rules and say, ‘Climb up to heaven.'” Or, ‘Climb up to this and He will still be happy to be with you. ,’” according to Jeremy In contact.
“One of the consequences of legalism is that it distorts the nature of God and is evil. It is an evil religion. At the heart of every law God has given us is love.
Jeremy never mentioned Jim Bob’s name, but for obvious reasons, fans assumed his comments were directed at his father-in-law.
Jim Bob’s strange belief system is primarily based on rules and punishment for breaking them.
Jeremy and Ginger proudly left this lifestyle behind when they moved to California.
Jinger tells her story
Last year, Ginger published a memoir in which she revealed that her view of Christianity was very different from the Christianity she grew up practicing.
“My faith is still intact, but it has changed. Instead of giving up my faith completely, I have been unraveling it,” she wrote.
Jim Bob is a disciple of the Fundamental Life Principles Institute, an evangelical organization founded by disgraced guru Bill Gothard.
In a recent podcast interview, Jinger revealed that her parents had the good sense to reject Gothard’s more extreme teachings.
“I remember Bill Gothard even once telling a girl before she came to Christ that she needed to follow his ‘steps’ before she could find freedom,” Ginger said on the “Grace and Truth” podcast.
“So there were things throughout the teaching process that my parents were denying or rejecting and saying, ‘Kids, this isn’t right.'”
In recent years, Jing’er’s relationship with her parents has had some ups and downs. But she didn’t completely cut ties with Jim Bob and Michelle.
The two parties appear to be able to put aside their differences. But Jeremy’s latest comments could put that arrangement to the test.
