DOGSTAR/ARCHER OH – Foxwoods Resort Casino Live Show
Kate Gulag
dog star With support from Archer Oh, they are bringing their “2024 Summer Tour” to the Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Casino Resort.
Full transparency, when I was thinking about this assignment, I did briefly envision Keanu Reeves’ John Wick character. above me. I agree to review the show under that spell. Later I listened to some Dogstar, because I always do research for my articles. It just doesn’t match my musical preferences. I hope I didn’t fall asleep during the concert. Read on to see if I stay upright!
The theater can accommodate about 4,600 people and was about 60% full before the opening. Archer ohtake to the stage. The intro was Rage Against The Machine’s “Take The Power Back,” a song that kept me optimistically in my seat, even as the crowd remained silent. The band is from the Inland Empire area of Southern California and consists of vocalist/guitarist Arturo “Archie” Medrano, bassist Juan Cabrera, drummer Pedro Hernandez and lead guitarist Diego Jacuinde.
Most of their eight songs are made up of tracks from the 2022 LP Gradient. The singer displayed drunken garage band moves and the bassist held an ax as if it was too big for him as they played “Second Grade City,” “The Loneliest Surface,” “Easy Eyes,” “Red Clouds.” and songs like “Love.” They had a stage photographer going about their business. Their sound is indie garage with a light punk edge. Archie addresses the audience “We are Archer Oh from California and we are opening soon dog star tonight.
Archie never stops moving forward. At one point, he ran off the stage and back, drank water, and adjusted his axe. During the third song, he was sipping water while playing. There are weird fart gun noises coming from the jungle, and then they shoot you with “no picture” like a jump scare in a horror movie. Archie chased the distracting photographer off the stage in a good enough way. The beginning of “Dianthus” sounded a little off-key, but that was corrected. Archie drank more water (the guy was so damn thirsty) and fiddled with his guitar again.
“How is everyone doing?” he asked as they led us into “Passion Flower.” “Everyone is very excited dog star? Is everyone excited? dog star? How are we doing? They got a good response. They continue with gritty vocals and a nice bass riff. The crowd seemed a little excited when Archie brought out his harmonica. They allowed photographers to return to the stage. The bassist and lead guitarist switch by swapping switches. “Thank you so much! Two more songs to go. The bassist puts the guitar next to the amp and walks away, and the set ends. Classic garage band maneuver. You can check them out for yourself at archerohband.com
I have a theory that people will attend dog star Showing more of their infamous bassist Keanu Reeves than their actual music. I decided to ask some fans. Lo and behold, the first fan I asked answered “Who is Keanu?”. She was just kidding. “I’m friends with drummer Robbie Mailhouse, so I’ll be here with or without Keanu.” Robbie is an actor in his own right, having guest-starred in numerous films and TV series, as well as appearing on Days of Our Lives. The next few fans I contacted confirmed my hypothesis. Especially the drunk lady shouting out Keanu’s character’s name randomly. “Johnny Utah!” “Neo!”
as dog star Rock star Keanu threw a quick bass line and wave to the crowd as he took the stage on night six of his tour. As expected, the crowd went wild. Robbie sat down at his instrument, with frontman Bret Domrose on vocals and guitar. They started their set with “Blonde.” The sound is good, but a little scratchy or muddy. this dog star The members don’t move around much, but their music plays well live. Most of their tracks are from the 2023 LP, somewhere between power lines and palm treestheir third studio album after a twenty-three-year hiatus.
Brett was the only one who spoke on behalf of the band. “Good evening Connecticut! How are you? If you have the new record, you’ll know this song. They offered “Desire,” “The End of the Story,” and “Everything Has a Twist.” Their sound is reminiscent of another alternative trio, the rough-edged Goo Goo Dolls. Brett declares “We decided to release a new record in October (2023), which feels like a long time ago, so we’re making new music and trying new songs.”
This resonated with the crowd, who added some unrecorded cuts like “Out Of” to the mix. Someone behind Robbie motioned for people to wave their phone lights in the air, and only 10 percent of them did. “Glimmer,” “That’s What Math Means,” and “Shards of Rain” keep viewers interested. At this point, a lone fan stood at the front, dancing in the seat-only venue. A random girl walked up to the front and someone took a picture of her standing in front of Keanu. I find it very tacky.
The band announced this as a family show where Robbie grew up in Branford, Connecticut, where he had a lot of local fans supporting him as he played drums, sang backing vocals, and played harmonica! brett status “Tonight we will perform some new songs and show you the new album. Don’t tell anyone! After every song, new or not, a handful of fans applauded.
Brett replaced his guitar and tinkered with his amp. “Overhang” had the worst sound, too loud and too quiet, and was my least favorite song of the night. Next comes “Bedtime,” where another Lando walks up to the front and takes a photo in front of Keanu. (Insert loud eye roll) This set contains one of their best songs, “Breach,” but it contains some annoying feedback. Brett thanks the audience “Thank you for providing the energy we needed tonight! Thank you for breaking the rules (and standing up)! (He points to a section of their feet in front of Reeves).
dog star Returning for an encore with minimal coaxing. brett again “Thank you so much! We didn’t want to go back to our lonely hotel room. Thank you to the fans who came to meet and greet! The encore made the entire concert worthwhile. The event kicked off with a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”. I’m not necessarily a fan of the Cure, but they did a great job keeping fans excited.
I was excited when the next song was another cover, this time “I Wanna Be Sedated” by the Ramones. Such a fun song that’s almost impossible to mess up. The last song “Jackbox” is very rock and roll. Keanu even attempted a high kick during that match. I wish the main part of the show could match the heavier encore, but that’s just personal preference.
Look at this trio. dog star For yourself. Their tour will continue until the end of September and new music will be released soon.
