Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt managed to avoid meeting each other at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
The controversial exes haven’t been in the same room or even walked the same red carpet since their split in 2016.
So how did Brangelina avoid a confrontation at one of the most high-profile Hollywood events of the year?
Careful planning or serendipity?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie attended the Venice Film Festival at the same time
Angelina is expected to attend to support her next big movie, Mariain which she played the eponymous character, opera singer Maria Callas. Brad, on the other hand, will reunite with his friend George Clooney at the premiere of Coyote.
It’s probably no surprise that the powers that be stepped in to ensure the Oscar winner and ex-spouse were well taken care of.
But to what extent may shock some.
Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera told Vanity Fair that the festival took special care to avoid overlapping schedules with films by famous predecessors.
“Angelina will be on day one, Thursday [Aug. 29]she will leave immediately [‘Maria’ director] Barbera said “Pablo Larraín” will attend the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. “So Brad will only arrive in Venice on Saturday. There is no chance they will meet on Lido,” the famous island where the festival is held. “
So, from the beginning, we decided that the best thing for everyone was to keep Brad and Angelina away from each other.
Honestly, this is the best.
Brad and Angelina are still at war
Angelina said in a 2021 interview with Vogue that she broke up with Brad for the “well-being” of her family. “This is the right decision,” she said at the time.
But the decision came at a high cost to her, both emotionally and financially.
The couple still finds themselves embroiled in legal disputes over their assets from the date of their wedding, specifically Chateau Miraval Winery.
The winery, nine hours’ drive from the Venice Film Festival, was purchased during Brad and Angelina’s wedding.
A June 2023 Vanity Fair article revealed that Jolie contacted Pitt in January 2021 about her decision to sell her interest in the winery because it was a wine-focused business.
“Even now, it’s impossible to write this without crying,” Jolie wrote. “More than anything, it’s where we brought our twins home and where we got married on a plaque in my mother’s memory. A place… a place I thought I would grow old… but it’s also the place that marks our family. Where the end begins.
For reasons that have yet to be confirmed, Brad did not accept Angelina’s offer to sell part of her business/property. After negotiations broke down, she sold her stake to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler for $67 million.
This is where the real trouble begins – and why they still can’t be in the same room.
Angelina Jolie attends Venice Film Festival for “Maria”
Brad’s ex, Angelina Jolie, received critical acclaim for her performance in “Lido” and became a hot topic at the Lido celebrations. Maria.
Pablo Larraín’s biopic tells the story of the last days of the world’s greatest opera singer, Maria Callas, in 1970s Paris.
Angelina apparently sings in the film, and although her voice is in sync with the famous Callas, she still needed a lot of training, as she told reporters.
“Everyone here knows that I was extremely nervous,” she said of learning to sing opera during a press conference for the film. “I spent almost seven months training because when you work with Pablo you can’t do things halfway. He asks you in the most beautiful way to really do the work, really learn and train.
Brad Pitt will have his turn
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt will be in town for the premiere of his film with George Clooney, WolvesSeptember 1st.
The action-comedy will find the friends reunited in the action-comedy film, playing two “fixers” hired to kill each other.
The film will be available on AppleTV+ this fall.
So when Brad arrives for the premiere, Angelina won’t be gone.
The two would never meet, perhaps never again.
