this American Music Awards CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced Tuesday that the show will be taking another year off. After no longer taking place in 2023, the AMA will no longer award awards in 2024.
The next ceremony will be held in May 2025.
CBS will air a two-hour event in place of the traditional awards show American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, airing simultaneously coast-to-coast on October 6 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. The special event celebrates the AMA’s 50th anniversary and marks the beginning of a new partnership between the AMA and CBS, which has also taken over DCP’s Golden Globe broadcast rights.

The special will feature new performances, artist interviews, special guests and exclusive never-before-seen footage from the Dick Clark production archives.
According to CBS and Dick Clark Productions, the show will feature thematic highlights from the AMA’s extensive archive of performances, with each highlight culminating in an original performance or artist interview. Individual sections will review the evolution of specific artists and genres at the AMAs, as well as key awards and performance milestones.
The performances were created specifically for the anniversary and will include collaborations, debuts from today’s hottest stars, and appearances from AMA legends. Performers for the special will be announced in the coming weeks.
In addition to the CBS broadcast, the special will be available live and on-demand on Paramount+ for Showtime subscribers, or the next day on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers.
