Prince Harry still fears the worst.
In an interview with ITV’s new documentary series Trial of the Tabloids, the 39-year-old explained why he still doesn’t dare take Meghan Markle with him every time he visits his native Britain.
simply put?
Harry feared for his wife’s life.
The Duke of Sussex said: “It’s still dangerous and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads these things and acts on what they read.”
“Whether it’s knives or acid, whatever it is, these are things that I really care about. That’s one of the reasons why I’m not taking my wife back to this country.
Harry and Meghan moved to California in 2020 and stepped down from their royal duties at the time.
Harry still doesn’t talk to his family, but he have He has returned to the UK occasionally over the past four years.
However, in 2022, Neil Basu, the Metropolitan Police’s former head of counter-terrorism, said Markle had faced legitimate threats to her life while she was living across the Atlantic.
“We have teams investigating this. People are being prosecuted for these threats,” Basu said at the time.
In response, Prince Harry previously said he “felt forced” to step back from his royal role and leave the country… citing concerns for his family’s safety.
Of course, back in 1997, in a separate incident, Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car accident while trying to speed away from paparazzi in a vehicle she was traveling in.
Harry had experience losing loved ones.
On December 15, the British High Court awarded Prince Harry $178,255 in damages after the court said that Mirror Group newspapers conducted “extensive” phone hacking between 2006 and 2011.
The judge overseeing the case declared there was clear evidence that private investigators were “an integral part” of the red-top tabloid’s delve into Harry and Meghan’s personal lives.
Harry, a father of two, has often expressed extreme concern for the safety of his immediate family over this invasion of privacy.
“They pushed me too hard,” Harry told ITV, explaining why he took Mirror Group, which runs the Mirror, Sunday Mirror and People, to court last year :
“It’s gotten to the point where if you do it, you’re damned, and if you don’t, you’re damned. But I don’t think there’s anyone in the world who’s better suited and better suited to see that than me.
Harry has been to the UK several times recently due to factors including his father’s diagnosis of cancer.
But this isn’t the first time he’s highlighted his concerns about what might happen if Markle or his children join him.
“Britain is my home. Britain is the center of my children’s heritage and I want them to feel at home, just like they do now in the United States,” Harry said a few months ago.
“This cannot happen without their safety being guaranteed on British soil.
“I couldn’t put my wife in such danger, and given my life experience, I wasn’t willing to put myself in unnecessary harm.”
