We just spent two weeks in Cornwall, England, hanging out with chatty relatives and seagulls trying to steal our chips. Here are a few photos if you want to see them…
We arrived at my late grandmother’s house…
…My aunt Lulu still lives there. She always welcomed us with open arms. Here she is standing in front of the town’s pub.
We hang out there often as they welcome dogs and children and the Sunday roast is delicious.
Best of all, there’s a dart board in the bar. Anton and I bet £1 each and you can see from the photo above how awesome I am, haha.
Children on vacation always make me laugh because they look as high as kites. My friend Alison joined in with her family which made me happy.
Every day, unless it started pouring, we took a boat down the river.
We were packed in with all the aunts, uncles, cousins, and babies.
Including my beautiful new godson. When my cousins initially asked me if I would consider becoming his godmother, I reminded them that I was not religious. But they explained that they interpreted the character as a warm, caring adult who he could turn to for help at any time throughout his life. I was touched and honored to accept. Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Anton also took up fishing and used his aforementioned dart winnings to buy a Royal National Lifeboat beanie for the cooler weather.
What about that perspective?
We had fish and chips as always.
One night, Lulu made a delicious dessert with strawberries, honey and yogurt. It’s fresh, rich, sweet, wonderful, and I’m adding it for next year’s New York strawberry season.
Also, in the small fishing village across from the port, there is a shop selling hand-pressed seaweed prints. Aren’t they beautiful?
Another highlight of the trip was my brother playing guitar, which added a slow-paced soundtrack to the loud, lively house.
Toby, 14, is the oldest cousin of the younger generation, so he’s a rock star to the little kids.
So does Anton. 🙂
At the end of the two weeks, we were both happy and exhausted.
And, while we’re not quite ready to leave, now is the time.
England, we miss you already and can’t wait to see you next year. Not pictured: long distance travel, jet lag, sibling squabbles, rainy days, and all the things that come with a family vacation! xoxoxo
