By now, you’ve probably heard the scary news:
Shannen Doherty passed away at the age of 53.
The veteran actress, known for her iconic roles in “Beverly Hills,” “90210” and “Charmed,” died this weekend, about nine years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, after battling cancer for many years, she finally lost her battle,” a rep for the star said in a statement on Sunday Zhong said, adding at the time: “
This devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog Bowie. The family asks for privacy at this time so they can grieve peacefully.
Since said diagnosis, Doherty has been very candid about his experience.
For example, just a few months ago she publicly stated that she did not want to die.
Unfortunately, it was only a matter of time for Doherty when the stage 4 cancer spread to her brain. Now her moment has come.
“I was shocked and saddened to hear the news that my friend Shannen had passed away. She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family during this dark time.
He’s not the only former colleague of Doherty’s to speak out, either.
Gabrielle Carteris added via Instagram post:
“So young – so sad. May you rest in peace Shannon. I know Luke would love you with open arms.
Brian Austin Green also shared a post on his Instagram Stories that read:
“Shan. My sister…you loved me through everything. You are part of my understanding of love. I will miss you more than I do now. Thank you for the gift.
As far as “Beverly Hills 90210” co-stars go, they also lost Luke Perry in 2019, and Carol Potter had this to say… She was hugely popular at Fox Cindy Walsh, who plays Doherty’s on-screen mother in the series:
I am shocked and saddened by the news of Shannon Doherty’s passing. What a journey she has been on! Left too soon. Throughout, she stayed true to herself and set an example for us of courage and perseverance in the face of death. May she rest in peace.
We agree with this view.
Finally, we end with a message from Jennie Garth, who didn’t get along with Doherty.
“I am still dealing with the overwhelming grief of losing my old friend Shanann, who I often describe as one of the strongest people I know,” she wrote.
“Our connection was real and honest. We were often at each other’s throats, but none of that reflected the truth of our true relationship, which was built on mutual respect and admiration.
“She was courageous, passionate, determined, loving and generous. I will miss her and always hold her deeply in my heart and memory.
“My heart breaks for her family, Bowie and everyone who loved her.”
The entire staff at The Hollywood Gossip sends our condolences to Shannen Doherty’s friends, family and loved ones.
