Mark ZuckerbergMeta is canceling the Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts… The reversal comes just days after Trump ripped Mark online.
Meta announced on Friday that it would lift all restrictions on Trump’s official Facebook and IG pages as he officially becomes the Republican presidential nominee at next week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Mehta explained in a statement… “In evaluating our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe the American people should be able to hear from the presidential nominee on the same basis.”
Remember…Trump was kicked off Facebook and Insta in 2021 for insurrection. He was also kicked off Twitter. Meta reinstated Trump’s account last year but said it would monitor it for possible violations that could lead to further suspensions.
Now, the guardrails are completely gone… just days after Trump called out Mark on his own platform “Truth Social” (the platform DT created after his mainstream social media ban).
Trump’s post read in part… “All I can say is, if I’m elected president, we will go after election fraudsters at an unprecedented level and they will be jailed for long periods of time. We already know who you are, don’t do it!”
It’s unclear whether Meta made changes as a result of Trump’s posts… but Zack’s company said Trump and President Biden Both will be held to the same standards as other Meta users, including “policies designed to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence.”
It will be interesting to see if Trump becomes more active on FB and IG…or just keeps his rants to Truth Social.
