73,000 counterfeit tickets in Washington, D.C.
Research from five separate venues in Washington, D.C., shows that by 2024, there have been 73,000 speculative (fake) tickets listed on these venues on resale platforms, with a total value estimated at $49 million. This includes ticket speculation stub hub Just last month, the company claimed to Reuters in April that it “does not allow speculation in sales.”
“Fix the Tax Action Day is an important moment for all of us who believe in fair and transparent ticketing,” said Stephen Parker, executive director of the National Independent Venue Association. “Now is the time to raise the voices of fans and artists and harness their power as voters. This is more than just a one-day event. This is a collective call to protect the integrity of live performance. We urge Congress to listen to fans and artists voice, and put comprehensive ticket reform on the list of must-pass legislation in 2024, along with other key legislation such as FY 2025 appropriations and the Farm Bill.
How to take action
The United States recently passed the Ticket Act, and the bipartisan Fans First Act is currently being considered and passed by the Senate. Tomorrow’s day of action aims to force Congress to finally take action.
All fans and artists are encouraged to sign this letter of support, which will be sent to their senators and representatives.
