it is receptionistworld, and we just live in it. Sunday night period 2024 BET AwardsThe 45-year-old, who received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award from LA Reid and Babyface, shared an inspiring message during his acceptance speech and became emotional as he reflected on the honour.
“It’s definitely not easy getting here, but it’s worth it,” Arthur said with a smile. “I didn’t write anything because I wanted this moment to be exactly what it is: right now. How I feel in this moment and how grateful I am for everyone connected to this moment tonight and what I’m doing Celebrating a career of over 30 years.
“This lifetime achievement award, I don’t know, man. Is it too early for me to receive it? Because I’m still running and shooting and I still love it as much as I did when I was 8 years old,” Arthur shared laughing .
The singer takes a serious look back at his early years and exploration of his identity.
“I was trying to understand a man who gave me this name but didn’t stick with it because he didn’t love me,” Arthur recalled emotionally. “Or at least that’s how I see it, because I’ve had to live long enough to understand that you have to have a big heart to understand the real pitfalls and hardships of being black in America.”
“My father was a product of that. He made a lot of decisions. He made a lot of choices, and one of the things that probably hurt me and helped me at the same time was to stay away from me,” Arthur continued. “That’s part of the reason why I say this is the year of the father, all fathers have to step up for their sons and daughters and be who they need to be.”
While Usher’s acceptance speech was sadly marred by audio issues during the broadcast, his message of acceptance and forgiveness shined through.
“You have to be willing to forgive, y’all. He who is without sin cast the first stone. You have to be willing to forgive. You have to be willing to open,” he shared. “I’m telling you, you stand in front of a man who has to forgive a man who was never there. Look what I did with it! Look what I can bring to the table. That’s what’s real. That’s what makes this I am grateful to all of you for what we are as men and women.
Arthur’s speech was preceded by a special tribute that highlighted “Love in this Club” ArtistAchievements in music, film and television – working with stars such as Toni Braxton, L.A. Reed, Janelle Monáe speaks in a special video clip honoring his career and legacy.
Then, in one of the most star-studded awards shows in recent years, some of Usher’s hits were performed by a host of A-listers including Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monet, just to name a few.
Before receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, Usher took the stage to accept the award for Best R&B/Pop Male Vocal Performance.
On the blue carpet ahead of Sunday’s awards show, Usher opened up to ET’s Deidre Behar about bringing his family along to witness the special night. The musician was joined by his mother Jonnetta Patton and wife Jennifer Goicoechea, as well as his sons Naviyd Raymond and Arthur Usher “Cinco” Raymond V. arrived at the show.
“It feels great to be able to share this moment with my family. We work hard [and] They made sacrifices and allowed me to do what I loved and supported me,” Arthur shared. “We are celebrating the last 16 years of their lives [and] My life over the past forty plus years, and my mother, and everything she has given me to be in this moment tonight. [I’m] It’s great to be able to celebrate this moment with everyone involved.
Speaking about Sunday night being the perfect time to honor all the hard work he has put in during his career, Usher told the Economic Times, “When it’s meant to happen, it will happen eventually.”
“You have to commit [and] Focused, eventually, they saw it. for everyone who has ever been [my] Motivation and receiving this award [and] It’s great company to join them in this legacy moment, and honestly I feel like I’m just getting started,” he admits.
It’s been an exciting year for Usher, who headlines the show Apple Music Super Bowl 58 Halftime Show and Officially tied the knot with my girlfriend of many years Back in February.
Usher joins a long list of game-changers and industry pioneers who have had a lasting impact on culture and entertainment, including Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, Mary J. Blige, Samuel L. Jackson, Lionel Richie, New Edition and Busta Rhymes.
Looking ahead, Arthur told The Economic Times that he is more focused on building his “kingdom” than gaining accolades.
“A lot of people focus on being first, being a queen or a king. I just want to build a kingdom and continue to create incredible things and provide amazing products to the world, whether it’s music or the culture that I create. Think relevant to the world,” Arthur declared. “I’m going on tour and after that, we’ll see what happens.”
