Television has lost an interesting man.
Martin Mull, a beloved comedian and veteran star of numerous hit television shows, died this week at the age of 80.
The actor’s daughter revealed the sad news via Instagram, revealing that Mal had been battling the disease for an undisclosed amount of time.
“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th after a heroic battle with a long illness,” his daughter wrote in confirmation, adding:
“He is known for his work in every creative field imaginable and for his work on commercials for the Red Roof Inn.
“He’ll find the joke funny. He’s never not funny.
The actor rose to fame in the 1970s starring in the soap opera parody Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and its spinoffs 2 Nights at Fernwood and 2 Days in America.
Small-screen audiences in the 1990s knew Mal from his roles in acclaimed TV series such as Sabrina, Teenage Witches and Roseanne.
Later, in his impressive and respected career, Marr appeared and starred in Two and a Half Men, Arrested Development, The Ranch, and The Cool Kids.
In 2016, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his guest appearance on “Veep.”
Marr was also a regular on the game show Hollywood Squares from 1998 to 2004, airing a total of 425 episodes, many of which took place on the all-important centerpiece.
In a previous AV Club interview, Moore, who studied painting and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Fine Arts and an MFA in Painting, was asked how a painter got into show business, and he replied: Reply:
“You know, every painter I know has a day job. They’re either teaching art at some college or driving a taxi or something.
“I just happened to have an unusual, fun day job and buy a lot of paint.”
Mal’s daughter concluded in her lovely tribute:
My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughters, his friends and colleagues, other artists, comedians and musicians, and many, many dogs – the mark of a truly exceptional man. i love him very much.
Martin Mull is survived by his wife, the former Wendy Haas, an actress and composer, whom he married in 1982. and his daughter Maggie, a television writer and producer.
