The feud between 50 Cent and Taco Bell has to be one of the weirdest feuds of all time.
It was also a spat that could not have happened at any other time in history.
50 Cent has been the target of diss tracks in the past. This is consistent with his field of work. But it’s a bit strange to be feuding with one of America’s most beloved fast-food institutions.
It all started with a joke. What followed was a $4 million lawsuit.
Why is 50 Cent feuding with Taco Bell?
It all started in 2008.
In May of the same year, Taco Bell released a new value menu. Anyone reading this fifteen years from now should start crying.
Single prices on Taco Bell’s value menu are 79 cents, 89 cents and 99 cents. By 2024, those prices will be closer to the price of a pack of Taco Bell’s guacamole (which, to be fair, is delicious) than the price of actual food.
You may have guessed where this is going.
To promote their new value menu, a Taco Bell campaign (jokingly) suggested that 50 Cent (whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III) change his name.
The iconic fast food chain suggested he might change his name to 79 Cent, 89 Cent or even 99 Cent instead of 50 Cent.
50 Cent disagrees with this suggestion
To be fair, 50 Cent’s question doesn’t sound like a joke about renaming him.
Instead, he accused Taco Bell of using his name in an advertising campaign without his permission. In 2008, he was still considered a “big name” in pop culture.
That’s why he filed a $4 million lawsuit against Taco Bell. By then, that’s enough for over 4 million value menus!
Social media has been around since 2008.
According to 50 Cent’s lawsuit at the time, protector, some fans believe that 50 Cent has endorsed Taco Bell’s products. According to his legal documents, many bloggers have once again accused him of “selling out.”
In other words, he accused Taco Bell of misusing his name and trademark without his permission and causing damage to his public image and brand. While a lot of people would be perfectly happy to appear in a Taco Bell commercial… they would want to sign on to the commercial and get paid, right?
Who Wins 50 Cent vs. Taco Bell Lawsuit?
In 2009, it was widely reported that 50 Cent won his Taco Bell lawsuit. However, his attorney told the public that neither party would discuss the details of the settlement (which is standard).
For many people, it’s natural to instinctively side with Taco Bell over the likes of 50 Cent. but we hope The settlement was satisfactory to all parties.
At the same time, despite the rampant greedy inflation Although prices have skyrocketed in recent years, there’s one benefit to ordering Taco Bell 15 years later: You can get it delivered to your door with ease.
