one dance magazine25 Brooklyn Dance and Interdisciplinary Artists to Watch Ogundi Ude brought the world premiere guest appearance Come to the Gibney Center for a rich offering of dance and performance in fully produced evening commissions as part of Gibney Presents, Gibney’s premier presentation series.
guest appearance is a duet about preserving and losing memory, featuring multimedia installations, live soundscapes and a complex improvised score. In it, Ude and her group of black female collaborators engage in an important black cultural practice—sharing the stories that make us who we are, even if we forget bits and pieces along the way. Structured as a carefully designed memory card game, guest appearance Challenging the performer’s ability to process, reinvent and move forward after facing the obstacles of physical and mental forgetfulness.
Each performance will feature a different mix of artists, giving audiences the opportunity to appreciate the work from a different perspective.
