justin timberlakeThe drunk driving arrest was captured on body camera footage, but police don’t plan to release the footage to the public anytime soon…at least not until the investigation is concluded.
TMZ officially filed a request for a copy of the video — which we know was taken during the arrest earlier Tuesday — and the Sag Harbor Police Department just got back to us … and said they denied it This video was asked to be viewed and an interesting statute was cited.
According to SHPD…the reason they won’t be giving up body camera footage (yet) is because New York has a specific law regarding the release of public records.
By law, one of the reasons for not releasing certain records is that doing so would interfere with ongoing investigations…a representative from the Sag Harbor Police Department told us that’s exactly why they are not releasing these records at this time.
There are other provisions of the statute that police have the power to publish such content, including the possibility of depriving someone of their right to a fair trial or a just decision, but the police did not cite them here.

He also noted that they are obtaining evidence from the District Attorney’s Office.
It’s unclear when the Sag Harbor Police Department’s investigation will officially end, or if they will actually release the footage when it does… or point to other exceptions under the law.
Regardless…it won’t be around for the foreseeable future – so we won’t know exactly what’s going on for a while. You have to imagine JT and his colleagues. Be happy about it.
