As fans and critics process the unfortunate incident, new details about Timberlake’s arrest are emerging.
At around 12:17 a.m. on June 18, Timberlake was pulled over while driving a gray BMW with Florida license plates. He is accused of driving through a stop sign and failing to pull over to the right side of the road, according to official court documents.
Surveillance footage obtained by Hamptons.com shows the 43-year-old driving slowly down a deserted street before being pulled over.
While speaking with the iconic artist, authorities noted that his eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and that he had “a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath,” Sag Harbor Village Officer Michael Atkinson wrote in the complaint.
Atkinson also wrote that Timberlake “spoke very slowly” and was “unable to distract” throughout the interaction.
After the Grammy winner “performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” Atkinson said the singer refused to undergo impairment testing, allegedly telling police:
“‘No, I don’t do chemistry testing.'”
This is also called a breathalyzer.
Timberlake refused the test two more times before being read his Miranda rights and arrested, according to Atkinson.
“This decision is based in part on the undersigned’s training and experience in detecting intoxication and conducting field sobriety tests, as well as having been involved in numerous DUI cases,” the officer wrote in the document, adding that Timberlake allegedly Also told him during a traffic stop:
“‘I had a martini and followed my friends home.'”
For the record, wife Jessica Biel – who may have split from Timberlake – wasn’t with her husband at the time.
“Mr. Timberlake was arrested, processed and held overnight pending arraignment in the morning. Mr. Timberlake was arrested at 9:30 a.m. on June 18, 2024 at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Department,” the Sag Harbor Police Department said in a statement this week. He was tried in court and released on recognizance. “
Timberlake was charged with one count of driving under the influence and two citations, one for running a stop sign and one for failing to stay in his lane.
He is scheduled to perform concerts in Chicago on June 21st and June 22nd… and will return to court for a hearing on July 26th.
