Consider part two of our travel guide to the Nordic region. After a few weeks of adventuring (and eating my way through) in Copenhagen, I hopped on the train and headed to Stockholm for another week of wandering as part of my solo trip this year. I quickly fell in love with Sweden’s capital – strolling its cobbled streets and marveling at the charm all around. Luckily, I’ve got it all organized in this Stockholm City Guide .
While Stockholm is similar in many ways, it also feels completely different from Copenhagen. The city is filled with beautiful spaces, incredible food, and amazing museums. I had five days in Stockholm, which was the perfect time to spend a low-key long weekend. The following Stockholm city guide is based on my trip – which a local friend helped me plan – so you know it’s full of goodness. If you’re heading to Sweden, consider this your top itinerary for a few days in Stockholm.
Your Stockholm city guide
I organized this itinerary based on the type of places and things to do during a super long weekend. I recommend grouping places based on neighborhood and what you find most interesting!
From countless amazing food finds to beautiful neighborhoods for shopping and exploring to gorgeous museums, this city has something for everyone.
What you need to know about visiting Stockholm
When to visit
I was in Stockholm during the off season and it was very cold and drizzly a lot of the time. While I still had a great time and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of the city, many people commented on how beautiful Stockholm is in the summer. (So beautiful, it might be worth avoiding the crowds – but it’s up to you to decide.)
How to get around
Stockholm has an extensive metro system that can take you to most places. However, I walked or took the bus almost everywhere. It’s convenient and easy to navigate. Be sure to download and use the SL app for your tickets.
Where to stay: Hotel in Stockholm
I spent five days at the Ruth Hotel in Stockholm. This hotel is super cute and located just north of downtown. The most delicious breakfast buffet is also available every morning, perfect for longer stays. A local friend of mine also recommended the Mahjong Hotel, which is closer to the city center if you like the location.

best cafe
There are many great places to drink coffee in the city. Drop Coffee is my favorite, but keep in mind that many stores are smaller and not suitable for laptops. So grab a cup of morning coffee while you’re out exploring.

best bakery
Indeed, in Stockholm you have to try all the cardamom bread and semla. If you want to grab a coffee in the morning or as part of an afternoon Fika experience, there are plenty of bakeries to choose from. These were some of my favorites during my visit.

The food in Stockholm is amazing and I still dream about many of the meals I had. One of my favorite finds were all the cute bars. Enjoy a cup of delicious dishes? Totally dreamy.
