Eric kindly sat down with AMP to discuss it all Shallow edge.
AMP: Can you give us a brief history of the band?
Eric: we formed Shallow edge About ten years ago, in a garage-like shop in a small town in Alabama. Like most kids coming out of high school, we just wanted to play music and learn about life. We started releasing songs and before long we were chasing the city. Weekend gigs turned into nightly gigs. Fast forward ten years and now we’re on the radio. It started with the humble expectations of some lost young people. Now we have a better idea of where our music stands and can swing a sword with the best of them.
AMP: Your new single “Filters” is impressive. Can you give us a brief introduction to this song??
Eric: We started the song in Nashville and finished it in Wichita with Chris Dawson. The song is about the choice one has to make between up or down, left or right. It’s about what’s real and what’s not real. How to deal with a world that constantly expects too much of you. In order to cope, a person needs to put on some kind of face, whether fake or real, in order to survive. Therefore, you need some form of filter to look normal.
By the time we finished recording, we both felt like something was missing. We think this song could be improved Shallow edge To the next level, but we need something more. We had never had anyone else sing on one of our songs before, but it seemed like the perfect place to collaborate. We discussed for a while who we wanted and by mutual agreement we found Elias Soriano from Nonpoint.
This seems like a perfect fit. We contacted him and sent him the song. After a day or two he had finished his track and asked us what we thought. that’s right. We knew he was going to kill it. He performed well and, besides, he’s a solid guy.
AMP: What is your creative process like?
Eric: It starts with a hum, melody or lyrics and is accompanied by a few chords. From there we started building the house. Then we throw everything else at it. Suddenly, the structure becomes more apparent and the colors start to shine. We usually bring our ideas into the studio and then we all sit down and start making amazing drinks. Once the frame becomes stronger we can tell if we are monsters or dumb. Our entire process was a magical whirlwind.
AMP: You’ve worked with Elias. Are there any other artists on Shallow Side that you would like to collaborate with?
Eric: We would love to work with a group of musicians. Our greatest joy is creating and creating music, and we love sharing this excitement with other artists.
AMP: For any band, momentum is an important key to engaging an audience. What do you think is the main ingredient in the Shallow Side dynamic?
Eric: harmonious! There are four of us and we all sing. That was really cool for me, but it also put me in a situation where I had to focus on the game the whole time. This harmony works both on and off the stage. We have a certain friendship. We are more than just a band or four friends. Shallow edge It’s not just music or a career, it’s a family and that’s how we treat each other. Thankfully, our differences are usually minor. Like brothers, we have our arguments, but our bond is strong.
AMP: Your new album is out this summer. Do you feel like this is an evolution from your previous musical style?
Eric: Yes, there has definitely been growth. On the one hand, our bassist Sam wrote some material for the new album. This record feels like we were given a new lease of life. The process feels freer and more inclusive. We allow more people to make a difference. We took risks and it gave us an opportunity to grow and expand our sound.
AMP: What themes are embedded in your songs?
Eric: My life story, freedom, justice and injustice. What I have experienced, I have also put others through. Music has helped lighten my load by exposing the choices I have made in my life, both good and bad. Shallow edge has become my personal therapist. Hopefully these observations can help anyone who is going through something similar.
AMP: What’s next for the band?
Eric: The album will be released in July. This is our second full length. We start touring in the fall. We also booked a rock cruise which was very exciting. It’s going to be a crazy time.
AMP: Any final words for your fans?
Eric: We are ready to get back to work. Thankfully we have some of the best fans, but we need to get out there and grow our army. World domination is just around the corner.
