They also connect many different genres with real emotion. The band consists of Nate Frederick (vocals/guitar), Frank Patrick James (guitar), Andrew Foreman (bass), and Dylan Miller (drums).
healthy boyThe music is sonically energetic, incorporating propulsive downbeats and reverberating guitars. Fredrick’s voice is very forward but still retains harmonious richness. His voice takes on a vibrant, cinematic quality. James’ guitar is full of great guitar licks. Forman’s bass is stunning, while Miller’s percussion is full of energy and tenacity. healthy boy Also an excellent songwriter. Their songs always tell a story. Additionally, the band has shared the stage with the likes of Morgan Wade and Clint Black. Like I said, healthy boy Huge positive progress is being made.
healthy boy We were honored to be interviewed by AMP for this in-depth interview.
AMP: I know this is a question you have to be asked all the time, but I have to go there. How healthy is a healthy boy?
TWB: healthy boy Not a Boy Scout. However, we do intend to embody a certain level of integrity. The name has less to do with being an upstanding citizen and more to do with how we treat others, ourselves, and our art.
AMP: Can you give us a brief history of the band?
TWB: It all started when we hit the road playing Nate’s solo records and recording the EP. We would share our music with each other in hotel rooms and rehearsals, and it just happened. Once we started writing together it became a completely different band and we’ve stuck with that feeling ever since.
AMP: We understand that the four of you are currently living sober lives. Do you find this helpful in your creative process?
TWB: Sobriety is one of the best things that has ever happened to us. It allows us to live a life that is more manageable and contains moments of genuine, heartfelt joy. That’s not the focus of our message as artists. It works great for us.
AMP: The band released two great singles this year. Both “Lies and Cries” and “Desert Diamond” have a unique independent style. How would you describe your sound?
TWB: We like to call ourselves “alternatives.” Rock music is our main focus, but we can hear all of our personal influences shine through in many different ways. From country and blues to heavy metal and folk.
AMP: What is the internal energy of the band?
TWB: It’s like a lava tube. Hot, pressurized molten soil melts on its own. We are always eager, excited and grateful to be a part of this ensemble.
AMP: You live in Nashville, but recorded your album in Brooklyn with producer Ben Rice. How did this happen?
TWB: We were introduced to Ben Rice by a handsome man named Patrick Clifford. We sent Patrick a demo of “Desert Diamond” and he thought Ben might like it. When we first met Ben, it was like meeting the cool older brother you never knew you had. It’s an instant connection we are privileged to share. Ben Rice is an absolute gentleman who helped us shape our sound and develop a deeper understanding of making music together.
AMP: Your new album is coming out soon. How excited are you? Is there a track that you think will stand out?
TWB: We’re very proud of this and can’t wait! We haven’t set a specific date yet, but it will be in 2025. We’re proud of each track and feel that, depending on the head, many will make it turn or bob up and down.
AMP: The band has a rich touring history. Are there any particular tours or shows that stand out?
TWB: Without a doubt our favorite show was Morgan Wade’s show on First Avenue in Minneapolis. Purple Rain, Purple Rain!
AMP: What is your favorite song to play live?
TWB: It’s hard. They all stand out for their own unique reasons, but we have a brand new song that’s not on the record called “NYC” that’s particularly fun to perform.
AMP: What’s next for The Wholesome Boys?
TWB: We have a brand new single to be recorded on January 31st! The fully produced music video deserves your close attention. The film draws inspiration from the music videos we loved as kids, combining their familiar content with bold, cinematic visuals to create something new and engaging.
