Hot take: While I love everything about the holidays, there’s nothing better than a good Advent calendar. I grew up with a mom who would sneak away in the days between Thanksgiving and early December to buy all the candy my sisters and I loved. Little by little she would fill up the days on our family Advent calendar for the three of us. As a kid—ahem, even a youngster just home from college for the holidays—nothing made me happier than the simple, everyday joy of opening something new every day.
Now, as an adult approaching 30, I have to say: Advent calendars still suck. While I love reveling in little joys myself, there’s nothing more satisfying than wrapping them up for family and friends. With that in mind, I’m looking for the best Advent calendars for 2024 and I’ll take you with me.
Why all the fuss about the Advent calendar?
With Instagram-worthy designs and beloved products, Advent calendars have grown exponentially in popularity. First, in addition to being great fun to open gifts every day, advent calendars are also a practical way to try out new products before committing to them. With a variety of cute mini treats every day, plus the occasional full-sized treat, counting down to the holidays is one of the best rituals.
Secondly, you won’t find a more affordable way to accumulate a variety of products. Popular brands like Olive & June, Papier, Bloomingdale’s, and more offer sample platters of products below retail prices, so you can get the best prices on the products you’ve always wanted to try.
When will the 2024 Advent Calendar go on sale?
Short answer? Now. Friends, it’s only the beginning of October, but I already have Advent calendar launch notifications in my inbox. However, many will be available around the middle of this month. Since the brand produces these limited-edition pieces in smaller quantities at such a great price, you can expect them to sell out quickly.
The Best Advent Calendars for 2024
Choose your poison. The best calendar for you (or best for gifts) really depends on what you’re interested in – whether that’s edible food, stationery, beauty or a mix of everything. Ahead, we’ve rounded up the best we know so far. Trust me, in the vast world of Advent calendar shopping, there are always surprises in store.

The annual Olive and June Advent Calendar is here and it’s a great one. If you haven’t tried the lovely world of Home Menis yet, please allow me to gently suggest to you, you missed. Olive & June not only provides the do-it-yourself tools, but also the knowledge. From their helpful teachings and free nail art master classes, I learned a lot about nail art and my ability to do it myself. The O&J Advent calendar sells out every year, and for good reason, but here are my favorites: The full-size polishes almost always expire before you get a chance to use them. I’m low-key obsessed with Voluspa’s hand-poured candles. The California-based brand has released the most delicious Advent calendar for fragrance lovers. I’m already imagining scent hacking in my life (I’m making it a thing), pairing each month of the year with the corresponding candle.

I don’t know about you, but puzzles are a mainstay during the holidays in my house. I’m really fascinated by the idea of doing a puzzle day for two reasons. 1. Instant gratification every night. Second, a 100-piece puzzle does not require a semi-permanent card table with an ongoing puzzle on it. In the meantime, I pray that my kids will stay away from their cute but sticky hands.

Finally, observe the space. Last year, some of our favorite people released truly stunningly beautiful Advent calendars, but as of the time of this article, we haven’t heard anything yet. We’re looking at Soko Glam, Revolve, Anthropologie, and of course Target. (Your move, bullseye.)
