The McDonald’s Institute International Summer School (ISS) has announced its 18thth The annual summer session will be held from Monday, January 13 to Friday, January 17, 2025.
Over the past 18 years, ISS has welcomed thousands of students aged 7 to 20 to Sydney for its highly regarded summer intensive programmes. This year, ISS2025 promises an exceptional experience for Australian and international dance masters from a diverse range of disciplines.
Paul Boyd, Queensland Ballet’s Resident Choreographer and Academy Ballet Master and a returning faculty member at ISS25, said: “This is a great summer school because there are a variety of different teachers teaching different genres. It is important to me that we take students out of their comfort zone, we teach them new dance genres, they learn different types of movements that they may not have been exposed to before, this opens their horizons and enriches their experience of dance .
This year’s faculty line-up also includes Alexander Campbell, artistic director of the Royal Academy of Dance in London; Claire Calvert, principal soloist at the Royal Ballet in London; and Iohna Loots, former soloist at the Royal Ballet. They will also be joined by Steve Rooks, another return specialist from Vassar College in New York.
“I have been lucky enough to be invited to participate in international summer schools for several years,” Roux said. “What’s really inspiring is the amount of growth and excitement that happens from Monday when students first arrive to Friday when we’re getting ready to give presentations.”
Participants will benefit from a comprehensive five-day program that includes classes and workshops appropriate to their age and skill level. Classes cover a variety of dance genres and techniques including:
- classical ballet
- modern dance
- pointe coach
- boys coach
- Repertoire
- Musical Theater (Youth)
- broadway jazz
- ballet performance
- Strength and conditioning training
- Introduction to the Gyrotonic® Method
