Well, hello Facebook marketing and crowdsourcing. These led me to buying my first pair of earplugs. Yes, I am a latecomer to this ubiquitous accessory that now connects me even more closely to the digital world. Why did it take so long? Am I a Luddite?
While my life is rarely dominated by electronics, I have gradually succumbed to many devices that are now well integrated into my life. During my teenage years, which coincided with the first advent of electronic calculators and years after the advent of personal computers, my electronics were limited to televisions, VCRs, cassette players, turntables, and stereo receivers (I couldn’t afford quadraphonic technology) .
But this post is more than just a history of my relationship with technology (which isn’t actually very interesting). Instead, this is my mini love story with these adorable earbuds (we used to call them headphones, but what’s the point in a name, right)?
I’d been seeing an explosion in people wearing earbuds for a while, and one day when I saw a Facebook ad, I decided I was ready. So I ordered them through the link posted and they arrived shortly after.
I’m no expert on audio electronics, but I think I know it sounds good when I hear it. These beautifully designed crowdfunded earbuds deliver incredibly good sound, including truly dramatic bass response.
The only issue I can report here is the lack of a tether so that if a bud leaves the ear, it can be easily found. There are a number of these products available, but none of the ones I’ve tried so far have been truly satisfying. That said, I would stop using these headphones if I were likely to fall asleep and lose one or both earbuds. They bring me great pleasure when I listen to/watch music and other videos on my iPad with the lights out. I can listen to my inner voices without disturbing my partner or our dog (who finds these buds potential chew toys).
I also own a set of Sennheiser 400 HD Pro headphones, which I tend to use when I’m listening to sound editing tasks on my laptop or listening to actual CDs on my little speakers. But these new earbuds are now part of my prized audio electronics arsenal. I highly recommend them.
You can order them from Status Audio, and, frankly, I get nothing but the satisfaction of recommending a truly excellent piece of audiophile electronics. Happy listening.
