I never turn down a HomeGoods shopping trip, and when I travel to a new area or end up in another neighborhood, I love going to different locations because no two stores are the same. I can’t resist the thrill of the hunt (I’m addicted to secondhand) and the excitement of getting amazing decor items at affordable prices. Can you blame me? That said, as a design lover, I try to pick out as many products as I can take home when shopping at big box stores. I love things that are affordable, but I still want my space to look curated, collected, and unique. This meant I learned to expertly sift through the many products on the shelves at HomeGoods. If you’re wondering what you’re buying at HomeGoods, keep reading.

Next, I’ll share some tips for finding pieces that work for me. Over the years, I’ve developed a technique for focusing on pieces that lean more toward timelessness than trendiness. Here are 15 items I came across and liked while shopping at two different HomeGoods locations (one in New York City and one in suburban New Jersey). I’m sharing tips on how to style each item and discussing why they deserve a spot in your shopping cart. Keep an eye out for these finds at your local store before they’re sold out!
Sugar Cane Tea Jar, $9.99
When I saw this tea caddy, I couldn’t help but take it home – and it now sits beautifully on my kitchen countertop. I’m partial to anything with rattan and love that this piece makes it easy to sort and store various types of tea bags so I can easily grab whatever I want on a given night. Of course, you can also repurpose this box and use it to store things other than tea. For example, you can also put jewelry or nail polish inside.

You can make it cozy with some throw pillows if you like, or leave it as is for a simple, neutral look.

Fake tree, $129.99
Not all fake plants are created equal, but this potted fake tree immediately caught my eye because it looks so realistic and stylish. I also like the pot and the fact that the base is covered in moss, which makes it look more realistic than other fake plants potted with plastic “dirt” material. Place it in an empty corner that’s been begging for a makeover and you’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.

Speaking of candles, how gorgeous are these marble taper candles? Take your tablescapes to the next level with these beauties, and considering the reasonable price, you won’t feel too bad about burning them down. Round Object, $24.99
HomeGoods is full of decorative touches, like this marble sculpture that can stand on its own or be used as a bookend (heavy!). I love the moody pops of color as well as the striped design. Trust me, with its high-end design, it retails at least three times as much as here.
