Justin Timberlake admitted to driving under the influence after being arrested in Long Island, New York, in June.
The musician reached an agreement with his attorney, Edward Burke Jr., on the DUI case on Sept. 13 and attended a hearing in Sag Harbor Town Court.
Under the plea agreement, Timberlake must complete 25 to 40 hours of community service at a non-profit organization of his choice… and pay a $500 fine.
Singers are also required to issue public safety advisories.
Timberlake, who performed on stage and spoke to fans about the arrest just days after it happened, also spoke to reporters this afternoon.
“Many of you have covered me for most of my life, and as you know, I strive to hold myself to a very high standard,” Timberlake said at a news conference outside the courthouse.
“It’s not about that. I realize I could have made a different decision but I’ve had some time to reflect on that.
The artist also told the court he “wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone involved” and said that, as he grew up in a small town, he understood “the strain this can put on local resources”.
Timberlake was driving drunk in the Hamptons on the eve of the official start of summer.
The former boy band member was detained by police overnight ahead of an arraignment hearing where he was charged with one count of drunken driving and two traffic violations.
He was released the next day on his own recognizance.
According to the arrest report, an officer allegedly saw Timberlake’s 2025 BMW run a stop sign and “fail to remain on the right side of the road.”
After police initiated a traffic stop, he noticed Timberlake’s “bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his breath…and that he was performing poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
At a previous hearing, the superstar’s driver’s license was also suspended for a year in New York state after he refused to take a breathalyzer after being taken to police headquarters following his arrest – something his lawyers said It’s “standard practice for every drunk driving incident.”
After Timberlake made a statement in court on Friday, the judge questioned the artist’s “intentions,” telling JT he could have taken a cab or used a ride-sharing app, but he still didn’t speak directly about the decision to drive. speech.
