On this week’s season finale of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter , Amber Portwood learned an important truth.
and trying to convey an important message to those watching.
As you may recall, Portwood got engaged to a man named Gary Waite last June.
A few days later, Waite disappeared.
Gary was finally found days later, thankfully in good health, but he and Portwood called off their engagement.
What happened to cause such tension and such scandal?
Portwood shed some light on the incident during this episode of the MTV reality show.
“I guess his dad read my Wikipedia,” Amber tells a producer in the finale… before screenshots of her sordid past flash across the screen, emphasizing her run-ins with the law, and She has a history of abuse with ex Gary Shirley, with whom she has a 15-year-old daughter, Leah.
“I think he was adamant about the fact that he might have heard it from family or someone else but didn’t tell me,” she continued.
“I just said, ‘I can’t do it. How can we get married if your family can’t accept me?
“Maybe he thought I had broken up with him. It seemed to me that he was probably depressed and desperate.
Amber actually learned on the radio that Gary had been found out, although she later realized he hadn’t contacted her since.
The mother of two believes this is a very important “red flag”.
From there, Portwood headed to her psychiatrist, saying during Wayt’s Uber ride:
“Now this man hurts me…
“I’m stable. Now, for the first time in many years in my life – and I’m 34 – something’s not fucking right with me because a man put a ring on my finger.
“You hurt me because we really loved each other. The day that guy left for no reason. I would say no reason because there was no fucking reason and he ruined something so fucking good. I’m fucking broken right now .
It wasn’t just Gary that broke her.
Portwood delved into some of the reactions she’d seen on social media to his disappearance.
“Do you know how you feel when people call you the murderer of your fiancé?” Portwood screamed. “Do you know what that fucking feeling feels like? He didn’t know what he did! They called me a murderer and told me I fucking killed him!
The finale ends with the couple ending their engagement.
“If you want to show what heartbreak is, this is it,” Amber concluded. “It’s not just a man’s thing. We have something better than what we see in our lives with other people.
“He looked at my family, my daughter, and just asked to be one big happy family.”
