Janelle Brown talks about the most personal and painful topics one can imagine.
On March 4, Janelle and Kody Brown’s son, Garrison, shot himself in the head at the age of 25.
In an interview with People this week, Jenelle dug deep into the horrific day she learned of Garrison’s death … and everything he went through leading up to that horrific moment.
“We just didn’t know where he was,” Janelle told People, adding that “substance abuse” may have played a role in his mental state before his death. “But he never expressed any emotion of extreme sadness.”
According to the official autopsy report, Garrison had a very high blood alcohol content when he committed suicide.
His roommate also told local police that he had been drinking heavily during this time.
In a text message the night before Garrison died, he did admit to being suicidal… which prompted Jenelle to ask her son Gabe to check on his brother.
Gabe did so and touched his body.
“He was very funny, very optimistic,” Janelle also told People about the state her son seemed to be in before his death. “He has a career path that he’s excited about. He has a life, he has friends.
Officials are calling Garrison’s death a “suicide,” proof that one can never truly be sure of what’s going on in another’s universe.
Jenelle told People magazine that she and her family “never knew it would come to this,” noting there weren’t any obvious warning signs.
Near the end of his life, Garrison checked in with relatives, adopted a cat and was “very excited” about his career prospects, she said.
“We were actually talking. He had all the resources he could possibly need,” the “Sister Wives” star says now. “It’s really shocking. We just didn’t expect this.
Add brown:
“I definitely had the thought, ‘Well, maybe he’s finally starting to get momentum.'” It’s hard to find your way in your twenties. I was really excited, so this was really shocking… because there was no sign of it at all.
Kody Brown hasn’t revealed much about his son’s death, but an incident reportedly occurred at his funeral sparked tension within the family.
Eventually, Jenelle was clearly crushed.
But she also didn’t know what she could have done to avoid this tragedy.
“It’s not a lack of love or a lack of anything,” she said.
“All I can do is think… We always ask ourselves if there’s more we can do, but I don’t know,” she added. “I think it’s a sad trap because I think ultimately everyone is responsible for their own actions and decisions. But we did everything.
“We really did everything we could. Unfortunately, sometimes [that] Still not enough.
