The Bachelor ended in shocking fashion on Monday night.
In the finals on September 3, Jenn Tran chose Devin Strader over Marcus Shoberg.
She also chooses to turn the romantic tables on her aspiring husband.
“You were always there, our love was always there, and I never once doubted how much you loved me,” Jenn told Devin on the show, adding during the show:
“I love you dearly, Devin, but I can’t let you propose to me. I’ve decided to choose myself on this journey, and the best version of myself is when I’m with you…
“I want to fight for you every day. You are everything I ever dreamed of but didn’t know I could have. I want to wake up and choose you every day for the rest of my life.
Later, Tran proposed with a seashell wedding ring, and Devon said he would “absolutely” marry her “a hundred times.”
Hooray, right? Is this a happy ending?
Wrong, guys.
Jesse Palmer sits in the studio with Tran after ABC cuts to the “Final Rose” ceremony.
“It’s been a really rough few months. We got engaged and left Hawaii, very, very happy. It was the happiest day of my life,” Tran said, explaining what happened after the fairytale ending.
“As soon as we left Hawaii, things were different. It felt like he was pulling away from all the commitments he had made to me and wanted to move somewhere together and plan a future.
Jenn continued: “The efforts were inconsistent. He wasn’t calling or texting as much. I was confused.
The first-ever Asian American Bachelorette did her best to continue in tears, and Devin eventually called to call off their engagement.
“He basically said he didn’t love me anymore and he didn’t love me anymore and it felt like something was wrong,” she said. “He regretted getting engaged, and I didn’t know it.”
Wow, really?
Then Devon came out in person and saw Jenn for the first time in weeks. The tension between the former lovers is palpable.
“What I can’t understand is what you did after you broke off our engagement,” Jen said, noting that he started following former Bachelor contestant Mariah George on social media.
“Not only is it disrespectful of everything we share, I just don’t understand why you would do something like this. It completely invalidates the entire relationship.
Devin didn’t respond directly to the criticism, but he didn’t hide his anger either.
“I let you down,” Devon said. “I have nothing to say other than that. But everything I feel about you is real.
However, Jenn was suspicious of his intentions and emotions, noting that Devin had previously asked for “time and space” to “process your emotions,” but instead ended up at a New York City club.
“When we left the show, I had a lot of questions,” Devon responded. “I did confess that to you.”
Devon claimed that he “hid all these feelings of doubt” both while on The Bachelorette and shortly after filming wrapped.
“It’s hard to sit here and deny your accusations against me,” he said. “It’s a pity that I informed you so late. I can only sit here and take responsibility for my shortcomings.
To Tran’s credit, he stayed real and raw in this discussion.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I want to start a family with you, but you don’t feel those things,” she told Devon. “You had one foot in the door the whole time. … It breaks my heart to watch the lies you tell me every Monday night on TV.
After a commercial break, Devin said:
“I’m not here to save face. I’m here for no good other than to make sure you’re okay, and that’s what I’m here for.
He summarized his mistakes like this:
“I watched this beautiful girl flourish. It was so wonderful to see you. I found myself struggling in the real world. … I watched you grow, and then I watched myself contribute to your regression. contribute.
To end the finale, Palmer praised Jenny’s strength throughout the journey – despite the heartbreaking ending.
“You showed all of us what it means to be a strong woman,” the former Bachelor leader said.
