Jax Taylor is opening up about some very personal and sometimes painful things.
The longtime Bravo star wrote on Instagram on September 2 that he had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Taylor also admitted that dealing with the diagnosis has been an “emotional” process for him over the past few weeks.
“A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive care facility, terrified of the unknown and what I might find,” Taylor wrote online, along with a black-and-white photo of herself reading a book.
“I’ve known for years that something was wrong but didn’t know what, and I recently learned that I’ve been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.”
Taylor rose to fame on the small screen on “Vanderpump Rules” and now serves as showrunner on the spinoff “Silicon Valley.”
He and Brittany Cartwright had just filed for divorce after five years of marriage.
Taylor continued on Monday:
“This was something to process and an emotional time for me, but I returned to my son with a new sense of peace.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t afraid of the future, but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday.
“Mental health is a lifelong battle, don’t let it control you, rather you learn to control it.”
Taylor spent 30 days at the facility in July and August of this year.
“Jax has been candid about his mental health, especially on his podcast over the past few months,” a rep for the reality star told People on July 30. He added at the time:
“He has decided to seek hospitalization. This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family.
“They ask for privacy and respect until he is ready to say more on the matter.”
Cartwright listed the couple’s separation date in her filing as Jan. 24 and wrote “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for their separation. She is also seeking legal and physical custody of her three-year-old son, Cruz.
Brittany broke down in tears over her divorce last week, and Taylor has yet to respond publicly to the incident.
Jax concludes in this new and enlightening message:
Thank you to everyone who reached out and shared their personal struggles with me. Your message helps me more than you can imagine.
