lamb of god / Mastodon Bringing their “Ashes of Leviathan” tour to Mohegan Sun Arena with direct support from Kerry King and Malevolence.
On August 3, 2024, I had the pleasure of witnessing an incredibly devastating night of metal. Despite a rainy night, all four bands brought their relentless fire to the Mohegan Sun Casino stage. Everyone in the packed house was expecting explosive heavy music. They were not disappointed.
The show kicked off with malicious. The band’s performance was filled with raw energy and relentless thumping sounds that instantly inspired the audience to a thrilling performance. Their music is bold and determined. Malice captivates the audience from the first note. The band has released three massive studio albums. Malevolence consists of Alex Taylor (vocals), Josh Baines (lead guitar/vocals), Konan Hall (rhythm guitar), Wilkie Robinson (bass) and Charlie Thorpe on drums.

Their seven-song set includes fan favorites “Malicious Intent” and “Keep Your Distance.” “Malevolence” ends with the stunning “On Broken Glass.” They are the perfect opener for this spectacular lineup.
Next on the stage is Kerry King who delivers a mesmerizing performance. It’s filled with deadly light and shattering sounds. King’s music pays homage to classic thrash metal, which is completely understandable since he is a co-founder of Slayer. The audience was transported back to King’s old-school style. In addition to King (guitar), the band also consists of Paul Bostaph (drums), Mark Osegueda (vocals), Phil Demmel (guitar) and Kyle Sanders (bass).

With the exception of two Slayer covers, most of King’s work comes from his latest album, I rise from hell (2024). King started with “Where I Reign” and followed up with “Trophies Of The Tyrant”, “Residue” and “Toxic”. Two Slayer covers, “Raining Blood” and “Black Magic,” were released late in production. King closed with the masterful “I Rise From Hell.” I really liked Kerry King’s music and my excitement was at its peak.
As the third act of the night, Mastodon The fiery scenes on stage left the audience in awe. Stunning light shows and impressive pyrotechnics enhance the power of their performances. They completely ignited the crowd by creating this incendiary atmosphere. Band members include Brent Hinds (vocals), Brann Dailor (drums/vocals), Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar) and Troy Sanders (bass/vocals).

The band ended the show with three powerful songs from their bold catalog. “More than I can chew” quiet and cold Cascading into “Cysquatch Circles” blood mountain. The last song is “Steambreather” tsar. This is a killer set.
