Mariah Carey’s mother Patricia and sister Allison died on the same day over the weekend, and the cause of death remains a mystery.
Fans took to social media to worry on Saturday, August 24, when rumors started circulating that something had happened to Mariah’s only sister, Alison.
Now, the singer has come forward to confirm the tragic news and share some details.

“I lost my mother last weekend and my heart is broken. Sadly, in a tragic incident, my sister passed away on the same day,” she said.
“I was lucky enough to be able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed away,” Maria added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this difficult time.”
Cause of death remains unconfirmed
When she made the announcement, no details were revealed to explain how or why these two crucial women in Mariah’s life died.
From her statements, we can infer that at least her mother suffered from some kind of illness that prompted Maria to come to her.
However, there are currently no reports of what the disease may be.
As for her sister, our best guess is that there was some kind of accident. Fans discovered Allison’s obituary, which confirmed that she passed away on August 24, 2024, at her home in Coxsackie, New York.
