Current flag football star quarterback thinks he’s better suited to lead Team USA in 2028 Olympics Patrick Mahomes …he told TMZ Sports The only thing keeping him from thinking that way is if the three-time Super Bowl champion can prove it to him on the field.
The name of a confident signal caller is Darrell “Hush” Doucet … A 35-year-old right-hander who helped lead the U.S. flag football team to a gold medal at the 2022 World Games.
If his name sounds familiar… that’s because he made national headlines earlier this week – when he claimed it was “rude“Many NFL stars currently believe they can replace some of the flag football players and win a gold medal on their own at the Los Angeles Olympics four years from now.
Doucet told us in an interview on Tuesday that he felt his words were a little misinterpreted … and all he wanted to say was that he hopes NFL players get to try and earn a spot on the flag roster — just like he did.
Still, he did say he’s convinced he’s better suited than Mahomes to lead the American flag in ’28.
“At the end of the day,” Doucet told us, “I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my game IQ.”

He later added in a text message, “I’m not saying I’m a better player overall, but until he steps on the flag field at 5v5, I’m going to feel that way until proven otherwise! I’m a A competitor and need to be proven wrong.
While this may sound crazy – take a look at some of Doucette’s highlights…it’s clear that the flag game is definitely different than the one Mahomes played on Sunday.

The field is shorter and narrower…and the games are only 5-on-5. According to Huish, there is almost no physical contact, and it takes a special skill set to know how to keep the flag from being pulled.
“It’s a completely different game,” he said.
Doucet is very confident in this — he told us he believes if a team of NFL stars were to play against his flag team… the NFL players would lose the game.
Now, Doucet says that could all change if the players take it seriously and practice at full strength — but he made it clear that no matter what, he and his teammates won’t give up any potential Olympic roster spots.
