Jennifer Lopez files for divorce, but A-ROD shades her over it?

Now that Bennifer 2.0 has ended, people are beginning to recall Roger’s relationship history. Before Ben Affleck, her most recent ex was Alex Rodriguez.
A-ROD seems to be overshadowed by the breakdown of her marriage. Cruel!
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are (officially) divorced
On Tuesday, August 20, news broke that Jennifer Lopez had filed for divorce from Ben Affleck.
The news comes after months of what we can only describe as “breakup hype,” with both Ben and Jen very publicly showing off their very different lives.
According to her documents, the date of separation was April of this year. This fits perfectly with the fact that the two didn’t appear at the Met Gala together, vacationed separately, and completely ignored each other’s birthdays from different coasts.
After news of the divorce (finally) broke, the internet was filled with vitriol.
In 2024, Jennifer Lopez released two disappointing movies on streaming. In recent years, many on social media have been reminded of Lopez’s alleged history of not tipping or under-tipping food service and hotel staff.
While random commenters shared their thoughts (and some schadenfreude) about Bennifer 2.0’s demise, Lopez’s (another) recent ex seemed to throw shade at her.
Is A-ROD covering Jennifer Lopez?
Alex Rodriguez shared a quote on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 20, just hours after his ex-fiancée’s divorce filing became global news. He quoted himself (as he sometimes does).
The quote reads: “Either you go one way or another, or you may be the one who decides the direction.”
Under normal circumstances, this is a fairly innocuous reference. In this case, one has to wonder if this is a reference to Jennifer Lopez’s very public breakup.
Let’s be honest, even if he’s talking about Jennifer Lopez divorcing Ben Affleck – which does seem possible – it doesn’t have to be shade. There is no other insulting content.
Shade often comes in the form of sarcastic compliments.
However, if anything, it sounds like A-ROD is just saying that Jennifer Lopez might also be the one who decided her relationship ended. This doesn’t necessarily cast a shadow on her.

Alex Rodriguez has used vague quotes to seemingly comment on a number of things in the past, including his 2021 split from Jennifer Lopez.
But, aside from A-ROD and his so-called shade (or words of comfort), we’re sure everyone in her life told her Bennifer 2.0 was a bad idea.
Sometimes, “I told you so” can wait. This is true for people in both social circles.
