NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CelebrityAccess) — BMI has announced that it will present music legend John Oates with the Troubadour Award on September 16 in recognition of his contributions to modern music.
The award recognizes a songwriter’s impact on the creative community and inspires future generations.
One of the best-selling rock duo of all time, Hall & Oates released 33 singles between 1974 and 1991, 29 of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the US Top 40. Her hit singles include “Rich Girl” (1977), “Kisses on My List” (1980), “Private Eyes” (1981), “I Can’t Do This” (1981), “Cannibal” ( 1982) and Disjointed (1984).
In 2002, Oates released his debut solo album, Phunk Shui, the first of six solo albums.
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 as a member of Hall & Oates.
“John Oates’ blend of soulful storytelling and guitar playing has enriched Nashville and its music scene,” said Clay Bradley, Nashville’s vice president of creative. “His influence has raised our community to be more accepting and open to all musical genres. We are honored to honor him as this year’s BMI Troubadour.
