should family feud got canceled? Finally pushing the boundaries?
That’s what some of the show’s long-time fans are saying after a recent viral clip.
While the competition series is an important part of Steve Harvey’s image and is often filled with laughs, some issues can go too far.
How did the show get approved as NSFW before needing to remove “family” from the title?
“Family Feud” is a family competition game show
The formula is simple. The teams come face to face to answer questions posed by host Steve Harvey.
These are not off-the-cuff questions. The producers come up with them and already know how people will respond.
Producers have surveyed 100 other non-contestants for answers. If a contestant’s answer matches (more or less) what people told the producers, their team advances.
Well, it’s a little more complicated than that. But not by much.
The producers obviously ask questions so people can get innocuous and hilarious answers. Sometimes, the potential for comedy can be a bit un-science fiction in nature. (Other times, the answer can be surprisingly sweet)
As you can see below, a recent video asked contestants: “Men stare at women’s breasts. What is it about men that women stare at?”
“How’s their package?”
one family feud Contestant Celeste gave the obvious answer with some very tasteful phrasing. “How’s their package?” she asks in the video.
Celeste wasn’t referring to the delivery driver, but to the clothed genitals. Her euphemism was one answer, which the producers summed up as “cute stuff.” This is one of the first four answers.
Interestingly, Celeste also answered “feet” on behalf of her team. Host Steve Harvey was quick to connect it to possible There is an urban legend about the size of the feet corresponding to the size of the genitals.
To be clear, this is not Celeste’s fault. She guessed—and she was right. That’s how the show works.
And, obviously, production assumes that many responses are thirsty in nature. Their assumption was correct.
However, given family feudAs the film’s audience typically involves actual family members of varying ages and cultural backgrounds, the film did not receive a favorable response from some parts of social media.
Critics of NSFW answers insist ‘Family Feud’ should be canceled
Several TikTok users asked in the comments whether the “family feud” was over. The show seems to be getting too heavy-handed in trying to create these viral, not-for-workers-friendly moments.
“This used to be a family show,” one TikTok user commented. “I can’t watch this with grandma anymore.”
Another joked that the show “takes the family out of the family.” [feud]”. (For the record, though, the show’s name comes from the contestants’ families. This has nothing to do with Steve Harvey’s family or what age groups might enjoy the show)
Many shows, whether scripted or reality, sometimes rely too heavily on certain elements. In this case, people responded to very innocent questions with NSFW answers, creating a viral moment.
Maybe production relies too much on this. Over time, this kind of thing gets stale.
That said, express this as subtly as possible… If someone can’t handle a vague euphemism like “package,” maybe that’s their problem. maybe that’s not family feud‘s fault.
