The Royal Ballet School has announced a new partnership with The Australian Ballet School – bringing together two of the world’s leading classical ballet schools.
The program aims to enhance the development of dance educators across the industry and will bring the Royal Ballet School’s renowned dance teacher training to Australia later this year.
From 29 September to 3 October 2024, the Royal Ballet School will offer Inspire, a comprehensive teacher training program designed to enable all teachers to deliver excellence in training, whether in the professional or recreational sectors.
This intensive five-day course is hosted by the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne, where dance teachers will explore new ideas, techniques and techniques in teaching classical ballet. Part of a bespoke program for Australian dance teachers, the program will include four days of workshops, roundtable discussions with dance education experts and a health and wellbeing session led by Megan Connelly, Artistic Director and Principal of The Australian Ballet School seminar.
The roundtable discussion will cover appropriate communication inside and outside the dance studio, exploring topics such as effective feedback, the use of studio language, and the impact of dance teachers on students.
The Royal Ballet School and The Australian Ballet School have a rich history of promoting excellence in classical ballet and continually strive to remain at the forefront of dance education and training. The partnership will ensure that all dance students receive comprehensive learner-centred training that helps foster a love of learning and the art form, while developing skills, technique and artistry.
Megan Connelly, Artistic Director and Principal of The Australian Ballet School, said: “At The Australian Ballet School we have a responsibility to build schools for life so that our emerging artists are prepared for careers in the creative industries upon graduation. Well prepared. As part of this responsibility, we are committed to the continued development of dance educators across the industry, as we recognize the critical role these teachers play in supporting the development of young dancers during their formative years. We are delighted to welcome. The Royal Ballet School comes to our school in September.
Mark Annear, Director of Training and Access at the Royal Ballet School, said: “The Australian Ballet School is a world-class organization and we are delighted to launch this collaboration. We share similar values in educating dance teachers and empowering all teachers to deliver exceptional training. Australia The Ballet School’s support will ensure we can continue to offer our renowned pedagogical training to as many dance teachers as possible, raising the standard of dance training worldwide.
This is an exciting opportunity for dance teachers to reflect on their practice and develop their skills alongside passionate educators, and I look forward to returning to Australia in September.
Inspire workshops will be led by The Royal Ballet School’s dance training and education experts, Mark Annear, Director of Training and Access, and Karen Berry, Senior Teacher Training Manager.
Bookings for Inspire intensive courses will open on July 29th. Workshops will cover the fundamentals of classical ballet, ballet, center, allegro, pointe and good teaching practices. Dance teachers of all experience levels can book single-day lessons or five-day intensive courses.
