Ryan Reynolds’ history of marriage and divorce goes back much further than one might think.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have been one of the hottest celebrity couples on the planet for years.
But many of Reynolds’ fans don’t fully understand his very famous ex.
He had been an arm candy before and a trophy husband so to speak. Including another member of the Marvel Universe.
Ryan Reynolds almost married Alanis Morissette
In 2002, Ryan Reynolds — then a heartthrob in his mid-twenties — was dating Alanis Morissette.
She is one of the most famous singers of the past decade. At the time, Reynolds appeared on various Canadian shows, and he is best known for his guest appearance on ” outer limits and The X-Files.
In June 2004, the couple announced their engagement. However, it won’t rain (or otherwise) on their wedding day.
About two and a half years later, in February 2007, Morissette and Reynolds announced their split.
They explained through their representatives that the termination of cooperation was a decision made by both parties. It’s not a divorce, but we’re sure the emotional toll is similar.
In fact, Alanis Morissette’s album Flavors of Entanglement was born out of her grief over a breakup. Specifically, “Torch” is about Ryan Reynolds.
Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson divorce
Shortly after their breakup in 2007, Ryan Reynolds found himself dating actress Scarlett Johansson. That was 2007, and she was already famous.
In May 2008, the two announced their engagement. On September 27 of the same year, they held a private wedding in Canada.
However, on December 14, 2010, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson announced their separation. A little more than a week later, Reynolds filed for divorce, and Johnson filed for divorce at the same time. The two finally divorced on July 1, 2011.
Ryan Reynolds met Blake Lively in 2010
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively met while filming Green Lantern in early 2010. Ryan plays the titular Lantern (Hal Jordan), with Lively playing Carol Ferris.
Carol is Hal’s love interest… though if the movie is good enough to warrant a sequel, audiences might see her as the antagonist, Star Sapphire. Alas, this is not the case. We didn’t even get to see a Sinestro movie.
However, that movie did something else: it (finally) brought together one of the hottest, most iconic (did we mention hottest) couples in entertainment.
Reynolds and Lively both had other relationships (at first)
It’s important to stress that, according to the couple, this was not a steamy movie-set affair. In fact, Reynolds was still married to Johnson at the time. Lively is still dating Penn Badgley, she gossip Girl supporting role.
Blake Lively and Penn Badgley broke up in October of that year. And, as we’ve already mentioned, Reynolds and Johansson were done just a few months later.
A year after Green Lantern was released, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively went on a double date. Their respective dates are awkward… as sparks fly between the two “buddies.”
They are a very hot couple
In October 2011, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively began dating. They got married on September 9, 2012.
The two have since apologized for marrying at the site of human rights atrocities and even renewed their vows. (We think everyone makes mistakes but they strive to get better, which is more than we can say for many people)
Reynolds and Lively now have four children together, welcoming them in 2014, 2016 and 2019, with the youngest born in February 2023.
Fans of the power couple can rest easy now that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have no signs of divorce.
Of course, you can also follow the couple’s antics on Instagram and elsewhere. They love to joke around and are clearly head over heels for each other.
Many people have all but forgotten (or were unaware of) the couple’s previous relationship in the first place. Looking at them, you’d think they’d been together forever.
