Screen and comedy legend Bob Newhart has died, and his publicist has shared his cause of death.
Bob is known for his unparalleled wit and sense of humor as well as for two hit television shows in the 1970s and 1980s.
Young audiences will recognize him from his performances big bang theory Playing Papa Elf in the Christmas classic, Elf.

Bob Newhart’s Cause of Death: Illness Becomes Idol
Bob Newhart’s publicist Jerry Digney revealed that his client and friend died after a brief illness at his home in Los Angeles.
Jerry didn’t elaborate further, and there are no recent reports that Bob is dealing with any health-related issues.
It is known that he quit smoking in the 1980s after being hospitalized for secondary polycythemia, a disease attributed to his heavy smoking over many years.
Thankfully, he recovered and worked steadily until the pandemic.
His wife Ginny died last year. He is survived by his children, Robert Jr., Timothy, Courtney and Jennifer, and 10 grandchildren.

Generations of fans have loved Bob for his continued work in television.
He directed two popular TV series – The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart – dominated the 1970s and 1980s.
Known for his deadpan and dry humor, Bob started out as an accountant but fell in love with comedy in the 1960s. He began his career with a breakthrough record in 1960, The cool head of Bob Newhartwhich earned him two Grammy Awards—Album of the Year and Best New Artist.
In the 1990s, a short-lived, top-rated TV series called BobAfter that, Newhart began guest-starring on every show that featured him.
Of course, who are we kidding – he’s in high demand! He guest starred in all the movies Murphy Brown and yesarrive desperate housewives and Cleveland Hot.
He is perhaps best known for his guest appearance as Arthur Jeffries, aka Professor Proton, on the CBS show The Protons. big bang theory and young sheldon. It was this role that allowed him to work in the television industry for 5 years, and finally won an Emmy Award.
