ATLANTA (CelebrityAccess) — The judge overseeing Grammy Award-winning rapper Young Thug’s long-running trial has reportedly been removed from the trial, with the defense arguing that after a meeting between the judge, witnesses and prosecutors, the two defendants requested avoid.
Records show Fulton County Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Granville was recused from the case by Judge Rachel Krause, who approved the defense’s removal of Granville from the legal proceedings, the Associated Press reported Motion to strike out.
Krause noted that she believed “Judge Granville can and will continue to hear the case impartially,” and that she removed him from the case to preserve public confidence in the judicial system, the Associated Press reported.
Attorneys for Young Thug and co-defendant Deamonte Kendrick sought to Glanville was relieved of his duties overseeing the case. Defense attorneys argued the interview was inappropriate and argued prosecutors and the judge pressured witnesses to provide testimony.
Glanville insisted the meeting was appropriate and did not give prosecutors an advantage in the case, according to the Associated Press.
Jeffery Lamar Williams, who goes by the stage name Young Thug, faces multiple charges that accuse him and dozens of others of participating in an organized crime ring tied to drug trafficking, weapons crimes and violent crime.
