Forbes takes down article suggesting black voters may be at odds with Donald Trump Feeling more likely to vote for him after the assassination attempt…probably for good reason.
The article is titled “Will Surviving Gunfire Be Donald Trump’s Next Appeal to Black Voters?” — written by USC professor and DEI expert Sean Harper …being black himself, it is more important to view this premise as a hypothesis rather than a statement of fact.
Still…his argument that Trump might try to use this moment (which he hasn’t done yet) as a way to appeal to black voters was met with a lot of pushback…many calling it racist.
He wrote in the post, which has since been deleted, taking DT’s potential stance… “‘Black people, they love me because they know the terrible sound of gunfire,’ is not something Trump ‘actually’ has ?” Hopefully he won’t. But it’s not that unthinkable. “
Harper also suggested that Trump could spin and raise his fist in a “black power salute” after being hit by a bullet – a reference to iconic moments from the 1968 Olympics and more recent games. george floyd procession.
Other points mentioned in the article include Trump’s past comments about black people hugging his mug shot. Essentially, Harper is saying that DT might be using this moment to pander to the black community, and he’s even hinting that it might work…and that’s the problem.
As we noted, many said Harper’s suggestion that black people would automatically associate themselves with Trump’s shooting was a stereotype … and Forbes seemed to ultimately agree.

Notably, Harper has made it clear that he hopes none of what he proposes actually happens, arguing that black voters are less likely to see Trump as one of them.
