Former President Donald Trump may have been hit by gunfire at a rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Reporters heard numerous gunshots and Secret Service agents rushed to the stage. Video captured by CBS News showed Trump touching his ears and then squatting on the ground. Some blood could be seen on his face.
Trump was taken away by a motorcade. He raised his fists as he entered the SUV.
A senior administration official confirmed to CBS News that the former president is safe.
“We have implemented safety precautions. The matter is being further investigated,” the official said.
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, considered a possible choice for Trump’s running mate, posted: on social media, “Please join Katherine and me in praying for President Trump, his family, and everyone attending today’s rally.”
