TORONTO (CelebrityAccess) – The Polaris Music Awards, presented by CBC Music, have announced the 10 albums and performers on their 2024 shortlist ahead of the annual Polaris Gala on September 17 at Toronto’s Massey Hall.
The shortlist was selected from 40 albums on the previously announced Polaris “long” list, which recognizes outstanding musical work by Canadian musicians. Nominees are selected by a panel of music critics, who judge and award awards without regard to musical genre or commercial popularity.
The 2024 Polaris Music Awards finalists are:
BAMBII — Unlimited Club
Beach – Blame My Ex
Charlotte Cardin — 99 Nights
DijahSB-Knowing Flower
Jeremy Dutcher — Motwolo Nuwok
Elisapie – Inuktitut
Cindy Lee – Diamond Jubilee
NOBRO — Free your pussy
Alison Russell – Returner
TOBi – Panic

The first acts shortlisted for 2024 include BAMBII, The Beaches, Charlotte Cardin, Cindy Lee, NOBRO and Allison Russell. Artists returning to Polaris this year include Elisapie, who was previously shortlisted in 2019, DijahSB, who was previously shortlisted in 2021, and Dutcher, who won the Polaris Award in 2018 for his album Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa.
Polaris organizers also revealed that Charlotte Cardin, Jeremy Dutcher, BAMBII, Elsapie, DijahSB, NOBRO, TOBi and The Beaches frontman Jordan Miller and The Thunder Queens will all perform at Macy’s annual Polaris Music Awards Gala.
Artists on the North Star Shortlist will also be featured in CBC editorial content, including Shortlist Summer, a weekly series that will take an in-depth look at each of the ten albums and the artists who produced them. The series will be hosted by CBC Music’s THE TEN, a series of weekly one-hour radio specials hosted by Odario Williams, starting Sunday, July 14, every Sunday afternoon 6pm (6:30 NT) on CBC Music and CBC Listen until Sunday, September 15.
Each episode will feature a conversation with a panel of music writers and North Star jurors for each of the ten episodes.
In addition, each artist will be featured in cbcmusic.ca’s editorial series Shortlist Shortcuts, which begins on Monday, July 15, providing readers with a weekly overview, providing listeners with important insights into each album.
