Steve Carell Maybe can’t steal the moon…but, his new movie is off to such a good start that the producers may be able to buy it when the dust settles.
“Despicable Me 4” once again stars Carell as the lovable villain-turned-father Gru. The film was released on July 3, just in time for the holiday weekend… and the film’s five-day total box office reached 122 million Dollar.
The three-day weekend grossed over $75 million…so it’s quite a break for the heavily armed minions – but, even without the extra days, the movie still opened well.
By the way… the movie also did well overseas – grossing over $100 million in international markets and a worldwide debut of $230 million.
It has become a tradition for the Despicable Me movies to be released over the July 4th weekend…with the last two films in the series being released on the same long weekend.
DM4’s five-day weekend total is slightly lower than Despicable Me 2’s, and its three-day weekend total is lower than Despicable Me 3’s…but it’s not that far behind, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. .
With all the star power, it’s no surprise the new movie is a success… in addition to returnees like Carell and Carell, Kristen Wiigthe new movie also features Will Ferrell, Sofia Vergara, Joey King, Chloe Fineman and Stephen Colbert.
Best of all… The Minions aren’t slowing down any time soon – plus, they can buy themselves a bunch of bananas with those box office sales.
