BTS’s own Jin is the Olympic torch bearer at the 2024 Paris Olympics!
One of the most popular music groups in the world is the Korean pop supergroup BTS.
Kim, the group’s oldest member, recently completed his military service.
Now, he’s representing his country – to the delight of millions of fans around the world.
South Korea’s representative at the 2024 Olympic Torch Relay is Jin
On Wednesday, July 3, talent agency HYBE announced that BTS’s oldest member, Jin, will receive a special honor.
“Kim will participate in the Olympic torch relay to spread the message of ‘harmony’ and ‘peace,'” the agency said.
“Jin and other torchbearers plan to travel through various historical sites in the host country,” HYBE noted.
31-year-old Jin (real name Kim Seok-jin) will represent South Korea in the torch relay after her recent performance other Serve his country.
In June, King completed 18 months of mandatory military service.
Of course, BTS fans around the world are posting on social media, pacing like widows waking up to wait for their husbands to return from war. A Bit Dramatic, but we were all relieved that he had completed his mandatory service.
When will we see King take up and pass the torch?
We don’t yet know the specific timetable for the torch bearers. The idea is that, as always, they will visit various historical sites in the host country.
The torch relay begins in April, naturally starting in Greece. However, this is just a relay race – a symbolic journey taken in sequence by representatives of the participating countries.
Currently, no other BTS member can claim this Olympic honor.
Jin is the eldest member of BTS. The K-pop supergroup is one of the most popular musical entities on the planet.
Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM and J-Hope are currently fulfilling their respective military duties.
Jin hosted the annual BTS debut anniversary celebration last month. Suffice it to say, now that he’s served his time, he’s back on track.
Will other BTS members follow Jin as Olympic torch bearers?
Currently, as we mentioned, other BTS members are completing their own mandatory military service.
However, by 2026, these will be complete. It’s easy to imagine that, say, Jimin could be the Olympic torch bearer at the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Games. Or the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
That said, it’s unlikely that every torchbearer will be a K-pop idol from now on, let alone from a band (no matter how big). At least give street kids a chance, right?
